Hatchback latch

Stupid thing won't close properly. It will lock so you can't open it without the key but it doesn't stay down. Like, it comes up a bit and you can move it around. How do I fix this? Fixable? Is this a piece I need new?

There is a way of resetting it by sticking your finger into the little switch/button. I'm not sure how to descibe it, but I think that might be the problem. Can anybody else descibe it better than me?

I just do the stick my finger on the switch routine to get it to reset. If the hatch locks to the latch, it should bring it down. The only way it release and moves up is if its switch is shorted.

I'm really reaching here.. anyone have a technical diagram to better explain this in words?

Um,I guess the first question would be, do you have a power hatch with the pulldown motor? If you do, then the motor could have gave up the ghost, in which you can get one from a wrecker. Trigger GTA and myself went to a local bone yard that is a pick 'n pull and there was quite a few with the motors still in them. Whether they worked or not, I don't know. But first get yourself a circuit tester and make sure you have a constant live to the motor itself. If you don't, look under the drivers side dash area by the fuse block. There is a small fuse holder that will have the same striped wire that leads to the motor( I can't remember the colour, I think it's a blue wire with a white stripe). Pull the fuse and check to see if it's blown, and check to make sure that there is power in the holder itself. If there is power and the fuse is fine, then it will be the motor that is the problem.
I found out the hard way, I pretty much dismantled my car trying to find the power supply to my motor, only to find out that the previous owner had simply removed the fuse. Hope this helps you out.

It's not power. So, I just stick my finger in the slot and push down?
