AFPR question.

I'm finally getting around to installing it. This may be a dumb question, but what the hell kinda screw is that holding the factory regulator? Never saw one with those little pins in them. Does someone know where to get a driver for it?
Thanks.

HI 16thowner

Those are security torx srews. You need to buy a specific torx screw driver with the hole in it. Most likely it is a number T15 or T20. Where to buy it.....Crappy tire. But if possible go to a flea market. A lot cheaper. I know, I used to sell them. If you want, take a torx screw driver that you already have and drill a small hole in it. This is a PITA but some mechanics are know to do this to save money.

If you live around the Thornhill area, you can use my set.

Let me know

Thanks 88redxtsy.
Before I pulled the plenium, I took a look and bought a torx driver to fit it. BUT, I didn't notice they were security screws.
I'll have to go buy the right driver, cause it's all apart now and I'd like to be running by the weekend.
Thanks again.

Actually I believe it's a T10 tamper proof. If you don't want to buy a complete set and just the one bit, I got mine at Carquest. It was $4 or something.

post the results

Hi 16thowner can you please post the results (set-of-the-pants-dyno) after it is in ? I am trying to get some notion of what these will do performance wise.

thx,
RP.

I've dynoed it Richard and there was little, if any SOP improvement at all. I don't have my dyno sheet here but the max HP gain I got was at 46PSI with a 6HP and 12lbs-ft gain and that includes the ported plenum. The AFPR was good for about 3HP of it. It's an nice tuning device, but unless you've got some serious mods, I think it was a waste of money. I did it because I had all the stuff, plenum and fuel rail, all apart.

Hi guys.

When I had the fuel pressure tested a few months ago, I was told it was 2 or 3lbs low, around 39lbs. After checking things out (not finding a problem) and only a 182 rwhp. reading on the dyno, I thought it couldn't hurt to up the pressure. So, I'm hoping for good things.
I'll be going to Forest and Forest next weekend, not sure what to expect. The car does seem to respond better with the other mods I've done so far.
I have picked up the tamper proof driver, so I'll be working on it tonight.

I strongly suggest when you're at the dyno that you test the AFPR in increments, I was quite surprised at my results, thinking that more is better. After four runs on the dyno, starting at 44PSI and going up by increments of 2PSI at a time, the best results were with 46PSI. Every car reacts different, so it was nice to dyno it and have actual proof as to what the best setting was for my vehicle.

.......or you could hook a volt meter up to the O2 sensor and see what pressure setting get's you closest to 875mV at WOT.

Thanks guys.

I'm thinking by now, I should have the engine broke in good enough to start playing with it. The shop I had build it, is known for putting street engines together pretty tight.
My timing is still at base as well, so there are a few things I can do.
It's getting to a point where I need to start thinking about a new chip. Probably something I'll do over the winter.
Thank again.
