Got my car back.... BUT... *** darnit....
So, I go to my mechanic, new clutch is in, flywheel resurfaced, everything like throwout bearing pilot bearing has been replaced, etc.
I get in, **** man, what a difference. The clutch is like a feather it was so easy to push down. It releases right at the bottom (ie, i push the clutch down, release about 1 millimetre and the car already starts rolling). It drives 100x more awesome than before, and I even notice a big increase in power...
BUT... here is my problem. I rolled down the windows, and I hear this non-stop sound when I am driving. It's in between a stream of whistle/ticks together. It's coming from the tranny area.
You hear the tick/whistle (it's like a ticstle, mix of both) sound whenever the car is moving. You hear it whenever the clutch is NOT pushed down. IE: I start the car, I hear the sound if I just accelerate in neutral. I push the clutch down, sound goes away. I put the car in 1st, let go of the clutch and start driving, the sound returns. It stops once I put the clutch down and shift to 2nd, then it starts again.
I asked my mechanic, the first one didn't know. He is like "It sounds like the pilot bearing but we replaced that so it can't be". Then the boss mechanic said "the sound will go away in a couple of days don't worry about it, the parts just have to get worked in".
He said if it doesn't go away come back next week.
I hope it's nothing major. Any ideas?

btw i drove the car around for a while, and here's what i realized.
if you put your foot on the clutch wihle you're driving, like, not even push it down, but rest it on top of the clutch (like forcing the clutch to ease up a little bit and go down a mm) the sound goes away. it's very weird
i hope they won't have to pull the tranny out to fix this, or will they? please let me know.
BTW IS THE MEET STILL ON TONIGHT CUZ IT'S GOING TO BE THUNDERSTORMING BAD!!!!

so how do i make this problem go away? once again, the problem is there is a whistle/tick (mix of both, it's like a tickstle!) which is constant whenever the clutch is fully released. in neutral, in 1st, in 2nd, in 3rd, in 4th, if the clutch isn't down, the sound is there!
the sound goes away if i rest my foot on the clutch (ie: put it like half a millimetre down).
if this is this bearing that you speak of... the throwout bearing?... how do i make the problem go away???

You take it to a competant mechanic and say "I need to know why my car is eating clutches. Would you be able to check the hydraulic system".
I'd take it to GM and ask which guy in the shop knows his ****. Then ask him. Every GM shop has 1 guy that knows his **** and 20 others that don't know **** form dark chocolate. It will probably be the service advisor or service manager.
Oh, and that does not sound like the throwout bearing. Do you guys even know what a throwout bearing is? It won't need to "wear in". That's BS. If it's "wearing in" you've got big problems.
Where's Dave? He'll knows the T5 system pretty well.

It could be a vibration caused by misalignment maybe.. the throwout could be "rattling" when there is no force against the pressure plate.
I had that problem with my car last year,
A little peice of the spring that holds the throwout bearing in broke off, right at the end, so the throwout bearing wasnt held in the fork anymore.....Just something to check while its out..

This is just another example of why you need to get a manual and some tools and DIY.
You know EasySpeed atleast half the (serious) repair work I do on my car f*cks up the first time which IS something to laugh at but guess what -- the GM mechanics have f*cked up the job EVERY TIME I give it to them.
So by doing it myself I gain experience and sometimes new tools. I usually save a few bucks and have alot of fun.
my .02 cents worth,
RP.

I had that exact problem with my car...started as that and turned into grinding. Ended up being my input shaft on my T5...mangled itself ..that and the pilot bearing.
I had to take the tranny apart and bring the input shaft to a place in scarborough called driveline specialties. They did an awesome job. For $90bucks, they added new metal to the front of the shaft and re ground it. Came out perfect!

Try and get a new mechanic or start trying stuff yourself Alex. Seriously man you are really getting burnt too often. And get that tranny fixed asap so you dont start getting premature wear if its a problem.

A bent input shaft sounds pretty bad -- especially if was done during a re & re at the shop...

Yup, Im sure theres a few of your friends on the board in the gta that would be willing to help you with stuff. Sure, you might still mess it up, but atleast you didnt have to pay someone else 300 bucks in labour to mess it up...

Everybody who looked at my car at the meet said it was the throwout bearing. The car drives perfect, other than the sound.
So, my question is, is it safe to drive the car with the throwout bearing making the whistling tick sound? I won't damage anything doing this will I?

Maybe it's out of adjustment or your leaking hydraulic fluid but it ain't going to help it much driving around with it fck'd up like that.

Are you SURE they used a new throughout bearing. When installed, th bearing grooves itself within the fingers from the pressure plate. If you remove it and reinstall, they almost always make noise...

Ok, throwout bearins are a solid unit. They don't work themselves in, they're put in and they do their job, thats it! If it's your throughout bearing, get it out! It will ruin everything. It'll start at "the little fingers" once the little fingers start to wear on the pressure plate, then you no longer have even pressure on your clutch, and it will wear itself out in less than a week, I guarantee it.
Easy, take it to a specific tranny shop if you don't want to do it yourself. They most likely see this stuff every day.

Not to sound critical,... but! Maybe you should just sell it. It seems like you are constantly fixing this thing. Maybe that is why the guy who owned it before sold it. Or maybe you are to hard on things. Be more Easy! LOL No but seriously, it is always costing you something. Just my opinion though.
