more problems with the GTA.
I've got some problems with the GTA again and I wouldn't mind some ideas of what could be wrong.
I was recently going to work and I was just stuck in traffic for about 30 minutes. I was in the offramp lane and I flored it passed some slow moving cars. I came off the ramp and turned to hit a main road up here in Ottawa and the car stalled. The whell locked up and all my warning lights came on. I still had some stopping power left so I pulled her over.
I sat there for around 2 hours or so before I finally gave up and called a tow truck. during that everything under the hood was moving just fine but it just wouldn't start.
basically right now she's sitting at home and I went on vacation with my trusty 89' LTD CV so I'll get back to the GTA as soon as I'm off sleeping and stuff
.
for some reason the battery is dead now too on the GTA I'm guessing because I had the hazards on for more than an hour but I don't know.
I did get her started once with the help of a friend who had some jumpers. she ran for about 10 seconds on her own until I gave her some gas and she instantly stalled and went right back not starting.
so far one of the "BEST" mechanic friends I have says it's the timing chain that's at fault and that the timing is off. he says spark goes first and then fuel because we heard the fuel run back into the tank etc. I've also heard coil and alternator even though my alternator is brand spanking new. I'm really at a loss so that's why I'm asking you thirdgeners! :hail:
5.7 L98 with 146000 miles on her.
any suggestions.
thanks guys!
simon.

It could be the alternator. Your car may be running on a fresh boost but then the battery runs down so fast. Does your horn honk? and are the headlights bright? When grtting it going after a boost load it up throw all your electrical items on and see how long she lasts. Use a volt meter and see if your getting 13 or 14 volts across the batt terminals once its running. Just cause the alt is new means squat. I went through 3 alts in 1 week through canadian tire.

ok cool that gives me a good idea then.
the battery still has enough juice to run my stereo too. 2 x 10 in the back for a while still.
when I try to start the car the lights dim. but even when she's getting jumpered she won't start.
so I'll try the alternator.

Where are you located? Try finding another 3rd gen guy with a MAF and try his on your car. I helped my buddy's shop diagnose a 1987 Vette, they put the Vette MAF on my car... and it kinda ran for 10 seconds.. ran really really rough.
Check your fuel pressure... sure there may be gas going through the system, but maybe not enough to keep it running.
