Hibernation anticipation

Finally got the car in for its annual appraisal. It's snowing like nuts out here again. I'll be putting Christine into hibernation by tomorrow afternoon..and not a moment too soon with this weather! She's already tucked in her stall. Just gotta do the finishing touches tomorrow. Oh, and the Holley double pumper arrives Friday! Halelujah!

I'm so disappointed.. only rain here... and I got snow tires here that saw 1 freaking day of snow all last year... I feel kinda ripped off... I go and get snow tires for the first time and get only 1 day of it. This year supposed to be mild as well...

Watch it'll snow after I pull another work in California stunt and take off again...

Heard it sucked in winter 2000-2001...

That's cool, Tracey. Where did you end up buying your Holley? New or Reman? I'll bet you can't wait for the next Dyno Day in the spring.

...copperchick,

How do you go about getting your car appraised? I am assuming it is probably a good idea for me to get done now since I finally got mine running this year etc, and after all the stories of people wrecking their cars over the last couple of weeks, I dont want to get jammed by those nasty insurance people!

Thanks

All you need to do is look in the Yellow Pages for automobile appraisers. Or, even better, find someone through word of mouth. I have been taking my car to a guy in nearby Petersburg for the last couple of years. He's a certified appraiser. He goes over the car, asks lots of questions, and then does a bit of research. After a day or two, you get two copies of the appraisal- one for you and one for your insurance company.

The insurance company will then insure the vehicle for what it's actually worth rather than what their guidelines say (I believe the white book or black book or red book or whatever book listed mine at about $700 prior to the appraisal...because most '84 Z's would be a heap of crap by now). The car's appraised at $6000 now. So, in the (unimaginable) event of a complete loss, they'd cut me a cheque for $6000. It's peace of mind because I'd never be able to find another car in the same condition as Christine for a measly $700! I also believe the appraisal is why the insurance company agreed to repair my car using new parts last December when those ratass punks broke into it and stiole my whoopty-doo $250 Sony deck (they did over $1000 damage to the interior...one part cost over $700!).

That's probably more info than you wanted. If you want the name of the guy who does my car, PM me for his name and phone #. I imagine there'll be tonnes of other good appraisers out your way though.

Tracey

Here's an appraiser that's used by many Ontario Camaro Club members:
ANTIQUE & CLASSIC AUTO APPRAISAL SERVICE
ask for Doug Adams
705 429-4556 / 905 891-2270

I've had Doug appraise my car twice for insurance purposes as it should be done every 3rd year (I think). Doug's Dad is an OCC member also and Doug is highly regarded by the specialty (Classic Car) insurers such as Lant & Co. He's very knowledgeable in the muscle car catagory.
Appraisals are about $125, but worth the money as Tracey pointed out.
I personally switched to Lant & Co this year for my '82 as it's 15+ yrs old. What a savings !!! And I'm insured 12 mths of the year for less than I was for the summer months with State Farm. There are conditions of course, like having a daily driver.
Tracey, if you're not already on one of these Classic insurance plans, you should consider it. Savings could pay for some more mods...!

Yup..already have arrangements insurance-wise. And I wouldn't touch State Farm witha 10 foot pole unless it had something very very sharp on the end of it.

Did you find out what your appraisal value is yet. i got mine a couple weeks later and it came in at $15,000. It was definately worth the cost of the appraisal, at least if I have another Iroc stolen, I'll get some decent coin for this one.
