So.... I locked my keys in the car.

I was putting in the antifreeze to keep it safe until I have time to pull the engine... and I started it up to circulate the coolant into the engine...... then I turned it off, locked it up and slammed the door.

I didn't feel like calling the autoclub, so I resorted to the internet:

*** Link removed ***
The link was a detailed "How to steal a 1982-1992 fbody... a few members thought that I could be helping car thieves by posting it... so I took it down.

It took me about an hour to make a tool and get it open, but now that I know what's what I could do it in under 10 seconds for sure. Your cars are NOT safe if you don't have an alarm.

I think it's pretty much common knowledge at this point.... if it makes you feel safer in a "see no evil, hear no evil" kind of way than I'll remove the link.

Basically if you really like your car, you should consider getting an alarm. Alarms seem to work. Club is a waste of money.

On the other hand, I leave my car unlocked, windows down, downtown London at night.... and no one has messed with it yet. If I do a car up nice, I won't be doing that anymore.

Thanks Easy for your 0.02 cents, there.
Do you think there was a reason why Johnny removed the link?
Why give the idiots that have no respect for other peoples cars, info that will only make it that much easier to steal them?

That is definitely the long way of going about it.

With the technique I used, I could easily be in the car in under 10 seconds without damaging anything. If you are good you can make it look like you are just unlocking your car naturally. It scares me how easy these cars are to steal. I've seen the 20/20 shows about car thieves and figured it was pretty much BS.

Good point.

It would be really easy to modify the inside of the door to make it alot harder to get inside the car. I'm thinking about welding a little shield over top of the lock cyls on the next car I do.

EDIT: On second thought... I would be SOL if I locked myself out. I'll just continue to go with the "this kinda stuff doesn't happen to people like me" theory until I get burned.

I think if you build a car your that worried about you should weld up a shield, and splurge $10 for a spare door key to keep in your wallet

I don't understand the phenomenon..... but it seems no matter how many spares I make, they all end up inside the car. I can look through the window while I'm locked out and count like 3 sets of keys. Maybe it's just me who has this problem.

I keep a spare in my pocket and one in my wallet and one more in the house and if I get really stuck I phone the number that is stuck on my window and the roadside assitance guys open the door for me.

I've called the autoclub before.... they suck. They could never be car thieves. I ALWAYS lock my keys in the car at least once when I go camping.

so, since you're not telling the easy way to get in the car...

i would guess that it's either pop the hatch like i said, or use a slim jim and stick it down the window? what... is there an easier way? i tried the slimjim before and it's pretty hard...

My power hatch button will not work if the car is not running. It used to work the other way but i had it changed when i got my alarm.

Our cars, unfortunately, are very easy to break into/streal. It didn't take long after I moved to ths rathole known as Kitchener to find out first how it's done when some little bungholes broke into mine last December. No tools required. They did it in our garage, with the doors locked, wondows up, and alarm armed, while I was working the night shift, a week before Christmas. How sad is that?

I read about that a long time ago. That site has been around for awhile. I had the same problem, locked keys in car etc. It's too easy to find.

yes not only a piece of metal over the lock cylinder but also near the front where the latch is.....and if possible...took me awhile to get some, a small plastic tube with a slit down the center and it has to be a tad larger than the metal bar connecting the latch to the cylinder so that way it just spins round when being tried.
seems to work well.

but in reality, if they want in they will get in, and along the streets of my work (downtown T.O) they often use a broken spark plug on the end of a string and smash the window, but doing it this way the window crumbles and no noise is herd, its even worse if you have tinted window......did i just give away info?...delete this than if it not proper but its pretty much common knowledge, can someone pm me the link to this website please.

I've seen a guy sort of pop out the window on third gens before, totally without damaging the car. Probably about 10 seconds, too.

I won't leave any details here, but if you don't know/want to know what I mean, Johny, PM me and I'll quickly explain.

I have seen that "window pop out" on the 3rd gens two, actually I did it once on mine, our car are not "safe", they can be broken in by almost anyone in 10/15 seconds, so like I always tell my sister dont leave anything out to give them a reason to break into the car.

Not to brag..but I can usually do it in 5 seconds or less. And I don't need to touch the window...and I don't damage anything either. I won't say how but I can show someone..some day. No! I am not a thief! Working at a dealership all these years has it's advantages. Customers tend to lock keys in cars...so I got really use to getting them out.
