Info on the black cover tail lights?
Hey guys
I like these black covers with the back lights on our cars, it totally suits our cars. But I was wondering if they are legal here?
I already saw a lot of camaros with them.
ANd how much do they usally cost?
Like im wondering I can get IROC style ones for 50 bux from the junkyard, or keep my old ones and get the black covers?
any ideas?
This will be of course during the process of fixing the fuel pump

I can't say wether they are actually legal or not. But cops will give you a hard time either way.
I would say go for the grid style tails... the blackouts have a really "dated" look.

I too like the look of the blackouts, but they are illegal for the simple reason that they hinder the reflective properties of the tails. I already run enough risk driving around without a front license plate, I don't need to add to it, thus the reason why I haven't got the blackouts.
Ever since Knight Rider, I've always loved the blacked out tail lights. I have the grided ones like John said, but I would like to see if my car would look cool with them on. They make total blackout tail light things for Trans Am's?
I have never been hassled for them either and all it cost me was like $10 for the can of spray. I don't recall what the product was called but it was made for blackin out tail lights. Might have been called Spray Tint. I just gave mine a light spray at first to see what it was like and after three coats I was happy with the look. You can also remove it if you get hassled or dont like it, my nieghbour removed his after a few run ins, good ole hairspray. All you do is remove yer lights and give the inside a few coats.

They are not legal in Ontario as well as in many other places for use on the road which is why it says "For Off-Road use Only" on the package. Under the Highway traffic Act, the tailights must shine red and must be visible from a certain distance behind and these lenses diminish the distance from which the lights can be seen. They also make brake lights look like regular tailights, which I'm sure you can appreciate can have some icky consequences. Head light covers are a similar situation. And the O.P.P. have stopped me 3 times for driving with them on. Should I know better? Of course, but hey...it was Grand Bend and I was cruisin'.

No prob. If you want them, buy them. But keep in mind that once you're on a highway, your a$$ is theirs if they catch you. Plus, I don't know about everyone else's experience, but we find the stupid things fly off on the highway anyway. That's partly why I'm selling my headlight covers (although they have never gone airbourne on me...Raven's talight covers on the other hand...I'll put it this way, he now owns 2... for the same side!).
I think it really comes down to your local police department's attitude, or maybe just that of a specific cop when you get stopped.
As a comparison, blackout covers don't bug me- but I really think the cops should be doing something about the white taillight covers the ricers like so much- I am blinded by their brake lights and turn signals when stuck behind them at night- and this seems more dangerous to me than a slightly dim set of rear lights. Pretty soon I'll be one of these people stopped 5 car-lengths behind the clear-taillight crowd at stoplights and traffic flow will become even worse as a result...

Here's another idea !!
On my Dually i had .....i bought the taillight cut-out covers and had them painted to match the truck .
Now i've seen these on Z28's & GTA's .
They look pretty good .......actually better than the black
Just my .2 worth

I don't believe anyone said cops 'create' laws- but they do have some choice as to which they will enforce with any vigour. I.e. if a particular officer likes cars quiet- he may decide to pull over everyone with a fart pipe- whereas the same officer may not mind blackout covers so much and tends to ignore them. Irrelevant as to what the 'law' says, it is still dependant upon the police officers to enforce them- and as cops are people too, many will pick which (especially in the case of minor traffic/vehicle infractions) they choose to enforce and which they choose to overlook. Personally, I wish that clear taillight lense would be on the 'hit list' of more cops- and maybe they will be if any older officers are still out there on traffic duty...
