V6 to V8 swap

Anyone have any ideas how hard it would be to swap a v6 for a v8. The v8 is a 305. Thinking about doing it but not sure where to start or if it would be more trouble then its worth.

what kind of V8 or V6? Its not hard its just a matter of gathering parts..Biggest work would be drilling holes for the tranny crossmember if its even needed.

It's a piece of cake, just finished doing just that. No holes to drill they are already there. Unbolt old, install new, plug in wires and go! I did an '87 Firebird and had a donor car, (also '87) made rounding up parts alot easier. You will have to move some brake lines to make room for the larger motor mounts (V-6's are in the front of the crossmember V-8's go on the rear of it). I also got a V-8 guage cluster so the tach would be right. The throttle and cruise control cables need changing too. The V-6 ones look like they would work but the mounting to the pivot is off by 1",so no go.
Good Luck.....

P.S. Forgot, you do need the V-8 trans (bolt pattern is different) crossmember and driveshaft all mount up.

I've done one. Its not too bad as long as you have all the parts. If its a fuel injected V6 to carb V8 swap, your biggest problem will be the fuel pump. The EFI V6 one has to high a psi rating for a carb so you will either need to replace the intank pump for a mechanical or carb safe electronic pump, or get a pressure regulator to lower the psi to around 6psi. Replacing the pump with a correct carb one is the best way to go. If you do get a regulator, make sure to get a 3 line reg, that has a return line to the fuel tank. The cheaper 2 line reg will work, but it will probably wear out alot quicker.

I think the motor mounts also need to be swapped out, which can be alot of work as well.
