Did they say why the flywheel was screwed? I have a couple ideas, but I'm curious to hear what they said.

hey Chris

well, they said that the flywheel was like all chipped and some of the teeth are broken or chipped. And I might get my money back for the labour costs since this is the 3rd starter, but theres only a 100 day warrenty on labour, and im well over that.

Anyways, im gonna call up my buddies garage about that flywheel.

Your flywheel might heve been ruined because of how they installed the starters.

If they don't shim the starter on your 305, the benix pops out and punches teeth of of the flywheel. Then eventually it wears the starter out, and then you need a new one of those too. Maybe, they don't know how to shim your starter, and are just simply bolting it straight up. It is Canadian Tire...

Stop being a pussie and get under the car and change out the flywheel yourself. I'm getting sick of you people bitching about your cars and then taking them to Canadian Tire of all places.
Changing your flywheel is an afternoon job. I don't care if it's parked in the open parking lot of an apartment building, get under it and do the job. I've done it, in the most worse conditions you can imagine. You won't need any special tools, just a socket set, wrenches and some hard work.

People if your not willing to go out there and work on your car, in whatever weather, whenever it is need then sell the damn thing and buy a Honda. But if you want a Camaro and like it, then put in the Goddamn time and go work on it.

Man... changing a FLEX PLATE is not really a job for a noob... the bolts on the TC are usually a B E E O T C H... more times than not, you gotta heat them up. But I agree... never take your car to a place that doesn't know the difference between a flywheel and a flexplate.

Davecamaro, if you like your car, then get under it and fix it.
Changing it out is not that difficult. If you can get a propane torch like Jay said, you may need it. But i guarantee, if you get rid of it now, odds are you'll be hard pressed to find another in the future if you decide you want one.

I'm sure, if you want to keep your car bad enough, one of the guys on the board that lives close to you would be more than happy to help you swap it out.

If you do want to sell that for a 1000 let me know. I was talking to someone recently who wants a thirdgen to fix up and the flexplate swap would be no big deal.

The flexplate is a expensive part just so you know, time is important for me, I have until TUESDAY to get this car on the road.
The flexplate is going to be very expensive and I dont have a penny.

The car runs and drives right now.
I got the new starter cuase it was under warrenty.
Hey if one of u guys has all the tools go right ahead and help me out, I have no idea what im doing with a flexplate I dont even know exactly where it is. I dont even have a jack or stands..
I usally do my work at my buddies but I cant get downt here like this. That new map helped car runs a bit better.

George might be on to something about Can Tires install causing it to break..How many teeth are missing? If its only missing a few it should be OK..I can lend you a starter if you want while WE rebuild your old one..

A flexplate is not an afternoon job..youll need pretty high jackstands to have leverage. The TC bolts are the same thing, tight as hell..You dont always need a shim..I dont have a shim on mine

Thanks Daz but I dont need a new starter?
I already got a free one because it had 20 days left on its warrenty. So the starter is not a problem, a new one is on my car.

The car starts I have to admit its not so bad sounding, now its the running like **** problem, I cant get my car from cdn tire garage yet cause they are charging me for labour so until I get 70 dollars my car is gonna sit there.

And u guys expect me to go buy a 300 dollar flexplate and install it my self without ANY tools. Good luck..

Chris if u wanna see what it sounds like and such u can come by today if yah want.

Yes I know thank you, but it dosent always work out that way.
I want to just get rid of it this time. Its been a drag on me and my family, and this is it, we and I are totally fed up with this car.

Dude, u must have the worst luck or the worst F-Body built, i have own'd over 10 of these cars and never had the kinds of problems u seem to run into. I have had 2 with wiring problem's, one is now a parts car and the other burnt on me and they were the 2 worst luck one's I have had.
My favorate got stolen, 88 Grey Iroc with 274RWHP, sold it to a room m8 because he luv'd the thing majorly and not even 2 weeks later it got stolen, 5mins after he got home from work.

Hey well mabye, I just know that I wont be buying another F-body until I get older and have money to throw around for stuff like this, but right now I need to get there first, and by draining all my money into a car that sucks in the winter and breaks down every second day is just not worth it for me at the moment.
Plus I want an IROC so later on ill grab an IROC with a 5.7L
thats what I wanted. I didnt knwo much about camaros when I bought my car but NOW I know!

Please don't!
If you can't work on the car yourself, stick to something else nobody wants. Leave the nice cars to someone who's willing to take complete care, and not bail on it when times get bad.

OHHHHHHHHH so now im the bad guy eh?
Let me tell you something man, Ive spent over 7 grand replacing parts, buying new parts, etc.. 3 grand the engine alone.. I did work when It needed it, if it was was minor I did it my self.
Please understand that im just too young to afford this car right now, 19 and going to school is a real hassle. And for your information im learning AIRCRAFT MECHANICS, yeah.. yeah u got that AIRCRAFT MECHANICS. ANd ive worked on my car during the coldddd cold days -35 nights and days trying to get it to start.. and all this B.S. work, going to the junkyards when needed to, towing when needed, MY CAA card and my moms are maxed on towing, so thats 8 tows right there in less than a year!!!!
RIght now its better off in the hands of someone on the board so I can come to drag days and watch it..

Don't try and give me some sad storry. I've owned two irocs since I was 18. Moved out. Bought my first house at 19. I pay all my own bills build all my own ****, and went through school. You think your the only one who's ever had it rough? I pumped gas to help put myself through college. And Aircraft mech. is no harder than anything else. you just need to apply yourself. I do whatever is needed to get the job done. Bottom line, you've given up.

Try pushing your car ahead about a foot or so, to catch some teeth on the flywheel, then it will start.

Im happy for you man thats great that things have worked out for you in the past, And u know what? Its that kinda "dont sell it, fix it" that kinda attitude thats got me into deeper ****. I could of sold this car when the engine blew but I loved the car so much I worked during the summer at the casino to pay off for the engine.
I Worked a lot man so dont be telling me "youve given up bla bla bla" the fact is I dont have a penny right now, and theres NO WAY I can fix it, dont u understand that.. im not going to push my car every morning and jump in while its on the roll and start it everyday. As I said ill buy a Camaro later on in life.. and stop giving me attitude about this.

Don't give you attitude?

Every second thread you post is to complain about your car. Then when people offer to help, literally come over and what was it?...
"offer you free parts and labour" to help you out of a bind, you turn them down. Just to come back on here once more and complain that the car won't start, or the car won't run.
Put it away. And take the bus, like many other people in North American cities do.

Ive been offered free parts and Chris (IROCKER) would come by to help me if I needed his help, and I know this, and I told him I would contact him if I needed help, but its all been major stuff and I have enough connections who know cars enough to help me out here at home. Ive had lots of free work done, but than more **** breaks or the car didnt start or whatever.
Yah ill take a Bus to the airport, thats smart Im sorry im not gonna dedicate my self that much to a ****ing car. And what am I left with? a car that I cant afford still? Great!! Makes a lot of sense what ur saying here.. U seem to be pissed off that im selling it.. and u really shouldent care, so leave it at that.

Why don't you go down to CT and put your car in 2nd, and push it ahead about a foot, start it and drive the thing home, instead of sitting here on the internet with all of us people who "have nothing to do at the moment"

I'm being an *** about this cause once you sell it, that'll be it, it's gone. And when you think you can afford an Iroc, they'll be gone. All of the good one's will have been snatched up cause they don't make F-bodies anymore. Unless you want to buy a field car that is...
