My suggestion is that if you don't like the responses given in the last thread, maybe try a post in the Tech/General board.

The fact that you are from Ontario doesn't make engine tech any different. This question doesn't have anything to do with where we're from. Just a suggestion.

On an unrelated note, I will eat your old engine block if you win an award at the nationals.

12 Grand!!!

You have got to be kidding me. Dude I love my car and I make a decent salary..... but spending 12,000 grand just on the engine in a 3rd gen you have got to be kidding me......someone had better check the water up there where you live because I think something has gotta be wrong with it!

But like I have said to people on here before, if it makes you happy go right ahead because you shouldnt give a **** what anyone else thinks.

I think Mr. "blown-tpi" spent a good $10000 on his ride.. then again, if you looked at his pics he also had a nice looking garage in the background that just reeked of "people that have way too much money... support the ailing students who want to mod their thirdgen please!!!!"

If you have that kind of dough, why bother buying a $2000 engine..?

Or better yet, why charge me $50 for your IROC side skirts as opposed to just giving them to me?

IROC2NV,

Witht hat kind of budget I would seriously be building an engine from scratch so you know EXACTLY what your getting as far as quality parts & labour.

$12000 can buy you a 600HP "all day motor" pretty much.

$6000 can buy you a 400HP "all day motor"
and it will look very pretty too

600HP and streetable usually dont go together very well.

A 600HP small block chevy is not uncommon, but isnt the most streetable car out there.

If your keeping it fuel injected, then i guess you'll have to buy all the upgrades like the supperram or whatever and those parts will gobble up some cash.....

So if its fuel injected, and your starting from scratch, have your engine builder build you a 383 (a stroked 350) and set it up for boost. Buy yourself a supercharger kit, and have a decently idling 600HP motor.

That would be the most "streetable" way. And believe me, you'll need those $12,000 funds for this one......

Now if you dont mind a very rough idling, high rpm street monster, you can build another small block prefferably int he larger cubes (383, 400, 434 ect...) and attain your 600HP goals too. But it will not be pleasent to drive, will be horrible on fuel(most likely high-test), and will not be ozone friendly

mmmm what I could do with $12 g...

Your talking to a guy that's thinking of spending $1800 on a paintjob...

Watch me rip 14's with new paint! Wohoo! Add a sticker, go 13's, ask me now!

I'll be doing 14's in a decent looking car, with my "in car PC design" that uses a rewritten version of winaldl to display the readings the ECM gets and lets me reprogram the prom, has a 7 inch lcd with dvd and why not take advantage of 6 speaker surround sound too... Fast and the furious eat your heart out...

Then again I think I was just dreaming at the keyboard again...

it seem that some people need to go out and price a engine that some builds for you. 12g is nothing for a good engine. and if you want it to be a show car engine then you will be at the cheap end of the price rage.

try giveing Agestio a call and see what a engine will cost from them. lets also not forget you could not buy a blowerfor less than 4g by its self.

personaly i think 12g is a lot of money too. buy for what iroc2nv seems to be planing. it right in line with other cars of that quality.

i think you should go for it. if you have the money and thats what you want. if it was me i would look for something that is not comon to stuff in there. somthing that when you open the hood people go "holly f_ck how did you do that."

dude...

i wish my paint was only that much...

it goes in the 1st of may and comes out like the 3rd of june...$6000 later...its like a matalic black with a bit of white pearl or something...its not really the paint that is costing the $$$ but the custom body work that is getting done...i think itll be worth it..only time will tell...

does anyone have any ideas on my original question though??

When is it going to be finished, at least 'appearance-wise'? I've still only seen the bad scans of when it was red/black etc...

I used to scoff at "idiots" who talked about dropping 5 digits into an engine... but when you actully add it all up, it isn't that hard to do.

I built my last one for $1,200 and ran 13s with it... .but to get into the 11s... you need to drop some cash there is no way around it.

the ZR1 would be hard to find. but i did see one on ebay not to long ago 10000us

the 454 you can find used in the tryad or buy a crate motor. all ready to go in. take a look around and you will see they are out there. the 454 would take a lot of work to fit it in.

Do you want a docile big block 600HP street car or a wild 350 with power adders that handles better than the other?..For 600HP its cheaper to go big block (IMO).The bigger the motor the less cam(better idle)you need..I dunno exact prices but if you want to spend $12000..get a 502 long block,Holley Commander 950 MPFI a TH400 and a cage..

502 - $8000?
Holley 950 Commander MPFI $4000?

probably less than 600HP but if youre willing to go carb....

The "Z06" engine (or LS6) is available in crate form, for 7 grand US.

That's roughly $11400 CDN.

It doesn't include PCM ($170 USD), the wiring harness ($527 USD), or an intake snorkel.

You're looking at WELL over your 12 grand limit if you want to buy a LS6 new, and buy the little extras you're going to need like a "transmission."

I'd still recommend a big block.

BTW, where is this shop of yours? Anything interesting to peruse?

I used to call them idiots but sometimes time is more important hence just paying somebody else to do certain jobs. Some people like wrenching (thats us),some just like to race or cruise and some enjoys taking pics of their cars..To each his own..My next probject is $3500

If I had $12,000 to make 600 streetable RWHP.... I would definitely be looking towards twin turbos.... or possibly one of those twin screw whipple chargers.

Twin turbos would prolly blow the budget.... so I would likely end up cutting a big whole in the hood and bolting on a big-*** 8-71.

I dont think he is mechanically inclined enough to own any aftermarket twin turboED car..He's gonna spend more $$$ getting it to run right..I would probably spend twice as much as he is planning if Im not into knuckle scraping

#12497323-- 502 RAMJET WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT IT BUT - AAWWEESOME ;) $8395.00

iroc2nv, a 502 Ram Jet is over 500hp and is basicaly a Tuneport. I believe the kit comes with everything including wireharness. I was considering that for my car when my first engine went Kabluewy. Someone even makes headers for 3rd gen's with big blocks, cant remember who but i know they make them.

http://www.racehome.com/images/wcnat...mjet502-sm.jpg
http://www.hotrodlane.cc/images/web002928a.jpg
http://www.tunedport.com/factory502.html
http://www.friesenchevy.com/engines.htm

Daz, most 400's around that i know of are 4 bolt, but theres always some sort of exception to something. I myself have never seen a 2 bolt 400, but hey, i wont argue, they prolly do exist. Life has a way of slaping me in the face like that.

D's89, the bolt patern on the 2 bolt flywheel wont bolt up to a 4 bolt, u do need to get a new flywheel. I have done it and found out the hard way, as for the oil pan, i took mine off the old engine, so ya stump'd me there, had no clue. The balancing plate for the flexplate or flywheel is about $100, but if your getting a new flywheel anyways u might as well get a balanced one.

If you want 600whp, call Procharger. A D1SC, a 383, some decent heads, and lots of cam will easily make 600whp.

Power=$$$$

A budget build will only go so far. You'll reach a point where the heads or bottom end won't support what you're trying to do and you'll need to upgrade.

You're pretty hung up on me. I'm flattered. You are the last person on the planet that should be calling someone else an *** clown.

IF THERE EVER IS A DAY WHERE YOUR JAPANIMATION IROC/SPACESHIP IS NICER AND QUICKER THAN MY CAR, I WILL KISS YOUR ***

im seriously looking for a half decent power motor..

ill have it ready to go in by like april 2004 so from now til then i will do a little research on the motors you have all suggested..

thanks for that

now..my shop is kinda mobile..

i have accounts at certain places (fx designs, wingswest, erebuni, toucan industries, apc) but i dont have a concrete shop because alot of the landlords in my area dont want cars in there bays// ( i know makes no sense)...so i as my partners..are looking for one.. i do stuff out of my garage here(summer only) and winter time ..i do little things like skirt kits and stuff..(ordering only)..pretty much what you need i can get..but there are always exceptions to this..

Gee, out of all those manufacturers you named, there's nothing that I really want. Oddly enough...

Then don't begin and end your post with direct insults aimed towards me

If you want a new engine, build one. Figure out what you want and then put the package together. I'd recommend a 383 based on a roller 350. You may or may not already have one in your IROC. You could probably put a nice 383 together for $2000 and you'd know what was in it. You can then add to the shortblock as funding allows. Before you do any of that you need to do some research.
