Where is the best place to get insurance if you have a bad driving record. I am a male w/ at least 3 speeding tickets in the past 2 years and a careless driving charge.
I have also had insurance cancelled on me and have had one theft claim and one accident where I went off the road in the winter and did 9k in damage to my truck.

I heard somewhere that people with bad records could get insurance coverage similar to that provided on a rental car deal.
Don't know for sure but it's something to look into - be lots of dollars though.

I'd goto a brokerage and get them to find you somewhere... make sure they try tho.. some will just call like 5 places and give up... I have a friend with a similar record and he ended up getting his insurance from some place in Nova Scotia or somethig liike that and it wasn't soo bad... just have to search around.

I'm in a similar boat. I spent about 2 full days on the phone talking to brokers about rates, policies, etc. I managed to find one small broker here in St. Kitt's that has me on Echelon insurance.
I'd suggest just calling everybody in the phone book. Make sure you know your facts about your driving record tho. They will ask you for them on the spot, and if you're very wrong and they issue you insurance, they are allowed to cancel it.

Actually- it's rather pointless for them to be asking you your claim history anyways- the larger insurers are all connected via computer these days. I was jarred recently by how much they knew about my wife's claim history via their online system- not surprised- I knew this was going to happen eventually.
I think the point of asking you all these questions is to "trip you up" and put you in the weaker position if you forget a detail. I.e. "well sir, you had said you had one accident 3 years ago and we see you had 1 accident and a windshield claim"- i.e. you've "lied" or "mislead" us and therefore we have the upper hand. However, this usually doesn't happen until after you've signed the policy with the quote provided and then they jack the rate. Fact is- they could have given you a 100% accurate quote to start with- but this isn't part of their "sales plan".
And yes- I believe that most insurers are basically misrepresentational and unethical.

Insurance hotline is worthless if the vehicle is older than 1988- their system can't quote on it. Also- it does not survey "all insurance companies" but only the insurers/brokers who have paid a fee to be listed.
I tried it three times over 2 years- always got quoted the same insurer with the same broker- and it was definetly not the "most economical" out there.
