If the 291 heads are what I think they are... you will have to grind you middle 4 intake bolts... but you probably know that.

I was just about to post that, the 4 center intake bolt holes will have to be elongated.

Good Luck & let us know how it goes.

I worked on it all weekend, only had 6 hours sleep, the best I could get was it to turn over and backfire occasionally. The timing seems to be messed up. I can't get it to start. Also the ground for the battery gets real hot, something not right. I think I'm gonna take her to a shop. Don't care how much it costs right now, I need it to run........ ....... .........

RattleSnake,

Make sure you have a good ground going from the Body to the battery, and a good ground going from the block to the frame. The battery to body should be 12ga, and the block to frame should be at least a 10ga wire.

When you dropped the distributor back in, did you set the motor at TDC and give yourself a new mark for the #1 Position on the distributor cap?

I hope youre chip works for you..That separation is waaaaay too much for a stock SD and the duration is kinda opposite of what the stock induction likes..Well its all theory until it gets tried out..Good luck

I did her. I got her to run. Took me a whole week. This has been a very frustrating experience.Swapping out the TBI 305, swapping in the 327 TPI, installing the long tube headers, installing the TPI wiring harness ( Firebird harness in a Camaro..not for the faint hearted), getting it to run....... need sleep..... but I got the 327 TPI to idle in park at 750 rpms. Let me tell you, it sounds mean running off the long tubes. Very strong, I'm pleased. Now to get it out on the road and break her in. I had mega timing problems, the custom prom didn't work worth a fart....... I'm running it off of the 305 chip and 19lb. injectors. Gonna go see about larger injectors tomorrow and see if I can get it to run with the custom prom, before I send it back. 327 TPI !!!!!

Fixed all the problems, got all the bugs out. Fired her up, timed her in, no leaks. Pulled her up to 2000-2200 rpm and held her there for 15-20 mins, no leaks or anything......so I drove her around Oakbank for 10-15 mins tonight. Sounds real mean. This car kicks ***, the chip seems to be doing fine with that cam in it. But yeah I do have low vaccum. Other than that it's killer. I got to get a starter heat shield and maybe some exhaust pipe to put behind those headers, gotta keep the noise down a bit HAHA !!!! I would like to thank Perry's Machine Shop for building the bottom end and head work, Ideal Direct Parts for the TPI unit and wiring, Pcm for less (pcmforless.com) for the killer chip work, my Bro, Sean, for the endless long hours of frustrating work he put in, Mom and Germain for there support. Sounds like some sorta awards speech...... going to sleep now, what a week..........
