Re-using head bolts....

Anybody know how many times a set of ARP head bolts can be re-used? They've been set and torqued a few times now. I know they stretch and i'm curious to know at what point they become too stretched.

From what I've read, they can be re-used almost indefinitely. But I bought new ones this time around just to be on the safe side.

torque them to spec with a stretch guage, you shouldnt have any problems.

ARP ones can work until they stretch too far... but dont ask me what that point is... i reuse em, ehh, maybe once, before i get new ones... cheap insurance.

LS1 bolts are totally torque to yield and CANNOT be safely reused.

i wouldnt use reuse GM head bolts in anything but the mildest of budget motors... atleast in my car... i have done other engines where they were reused, but they were mostly stock, low output motors...

my advice, if in doubt, get new ones.

I'm going to get new bolts. I may get studs to make the rev kit install easier.

cool.. jsut be aware that studs make removing the heads in the car a PITA... you cant remove the head with the studs in there.. yuo have to pull the studs before you can install the heads.

Then screw the studs. I'll stick with a new set of bolts.
