lil debate with my boy.

sup guys i am trying to tell my friend that it is possible to get a thirdgen to get through snow with no problem with just the right tires and a good amount of bricks in the back. anyway what u guys think if u wanna make a thirdgen get through winter what has to be done? what tires?what size? oh also putting bricks in the back of a thirdgen for a winter could it damage the suspension??

aslong as the car has good clearence, ya can u make it get through snow like a pickup.....what other steps should be taken, and how good will they be if all steps are taken???

thanks guys

later

We went mud-riding in mine, these things can take just about anything.

Sure you can drive a 3rdgen in the winter. Get some snow tires, and off you go. I wouldn't bother with any bricks, as the back hatch weighs a good amount, but 40lbs of brick or a sand bag really should hurt anything. Look at some speaker boxes... they can weigh around 70lbs, if MDF and some big magnets are present. I personally wouldn't drive any Fbody in the winter, but not because you can't.

if adding weight, you might as well try to keep a full take of gas

I've put my car through about four winters.

Had 225 or 235 width pos radials at the time. I used to put an 80 pound bag of sand in the trunk and the difference was quite noticable.

The car wasn't that bad in the winter but nowhere near as good as some of the big boats that i had.

The TA was a lot better in the snow than the truck i got now and i got about 250 lbs of sand in the back of that f'ckin ***** right now and it's still sliding all over the stinkin f'ckin road tonight on the way home..

I'm driving a 87 Z28 right now as my winter car. I got some Michelin Artic Alpines on her and she goes through the snow great.

Two nights ago, I plowed the laneway with the camaro, didnt even hesitate going through the drifts.

I have driven an F-Body for the winter for the last 8 years and never had a problem, and I live in a pretty snowy area

This ones got an LG4 in her

Our Trans Am was a 96 with the LT1 and we drove it for 3 winters

I had an 88 Iroc with 275 poni's that i drove for 1 winter, then it got stolen

Had an 83 Z28 that i drove for 2 winters with an LG4 then the wife drove it for 2 winters after that.

Had an 86 Iroc with the HO in her, for one winter and a small v6 camaro for one winter, wife drove that one for 2 or 3 winters also.

Thats only the ones I have drove in the winter, had alot more then that

Hell right now I got 5 Camaro's and one Firebird, and I'm picking up an T-Roof, white 87 Iroc 350 TPI, with red interior, prolly this weekend

But only 3 of the Camaro's are road worthy, and this new Iroc will be soon as I put a motor in it. Plus I already got her resold

just get some sand bags (makes a world of difference) and some tires and youre good to go.

Some people think youre crazy to drive a rwd car in the winter but i think theyre forgeting that at one point all cars were rwd.

Tires make all the difference in the world on any vehicle. I know, my Jimmy has crappy tires and it shows.

A lady at work drive a V6 F-body all year round. She never has any problems. She doesn't even use the snow tires and turbo-fin rims my brother gave her (before I bought the GTA).

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
I had no problems running my SC in the winter here in NB. I had a 270-ish hp V8, T5, and a 3.42 open rear. For tires I ran a set of 235/60R15CTC "Predators" - the same thing as a Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS. As long as some common sense is used, there's no problems.
One snowy day last winter heading to work (2 lane hiway), going uphill there was a third lane for passing slower traffic. About 2/3 of the way up, I had to pull out to pass a couple slower vehicles - a transport truck w/loaded flatbed, and following him was a newer Dodge 4X4(!). When I swung out, the rear of the car slid out so that the passenger rear wheel was running in the same track as the drivers front wheel. I was in third gear, about 45 mph, kept the boot to her and the wheel cut and passed them both like this: me-> // || <-them.
I miss that car....

Pete
