winter just sucks!

first i would like to say WINTER SUCKS!!! i count the days till its over lol. anyway i met a dude who has a thirdgen camaro not sure of year i never seen it and he started asking questions i dont no so i figure i help him out and ask u guys. first he has his car sitting outside in the cold with like a pile of snow on it. all he did was an oil change and top up all fluids and fill tank before letting it sit. its been there like 3 weeks now. anyway he want to know should he start it up sometime and take her for a spin on nice days or leave it? is there anything he should do when starting engine after sitting in very cold temp for weeks?? i personaly think he would just be better off driveing it but i dont no. anyway what the info guys?

Driving it on the nicer days won't hurt it, but just letting it idle will. If he does drive it on the nicer days, he should rinse the salt and crap off first before letting it sit there again. Also dont' let the car site on it's wheels in the same spot for to long. move the car arouns so the tires don't get flat spots, or put it up oin jack stands by the suspension. Don't let the suspension hang.

um... why would just letting your car idle hurt it?

Sometimes when people store their cars they start them every month or so and let them idle for a bit - this is not so great because it leaves a lot of moisture in the exhaust system which can cause it to rust through. That's one reason, there may be others .

sounds strange to me...

i have my car in the underground garage, and i start it every month, let it idle for a good 15 minutes, and then take it for a quick quick drive around the underground.

i don't see how it can hurt anything

Dry starts are very bad.

I used to start mine about every month when it was in storage - I think that has something to do with why the oil rings are shot after only 100K miles on the motor.
