I changed my tranny fluid last year and it was plain ugly! The fluid was a deep indian red(almost black really) and the magnet was coated with silver sludge. The tranny is still doin its job though, not as effectively as I would like but its gettin me around.

The fluid in that pic only has about 5000kms on it and was being run through a B&M supercooler. I doubt that 700r4 will last the summer

somehow you got only half the myth since you're changing the fluid, yet, you only feel the need to change half of it... heh.
you do realize there another 2 quarts of that black oil in your trans right now, right?
take off the line going into your supercooler, and stick it in a bucket, then with several open bottles of fluid and a funnel in and ready, start the car.
the trans will pump the crap fluid out, you just need to pour new fluid in until its nice and red.
first time i heard of this method was online, on this board... it works great. you arnt "powerflushing" it, but it does get all the old fluid out.

The transmission, torque converter, and cooler are all sitting on the garage floor. When you "power flush" a trans the grit and grunge often ends up in a different spot than it was in before. It's not a myth, i've seen it happen. I don't beleive in power flushing transmissions, end of story. But the method you're suggesting does sound pretty clever.

powerflushing is when they stick a pump to your car and spray fluid in at the shop.
this does throw the grit everywhere.
what im suggesting doesnt move the grit at all, if you think about it, its just the normal flow of fluid. only the old fluid isnt returning, you're pouring fresh fluid in.
its not being powerflushed, the grit and everything remains in it... so technicly its not "clean" either.. its just fresh ATF in place of the old ATF.

Yup, gas is too expensive. I've been looking at Civics in the autotrader and reading up at hondatech.com. Did you know that they can get those things into the 14's now?
Just a note- "dude" 's flushing method works fine- done it a couple dozen times on different units.
The problem with the powerflushing method is that it's never done "right". The pan needs to be dropped FIRST, pan cleaned out and a new filter, then put it back up and flush, maybe change the filter again. This, of course is not what you get at "Jiffy Lube" or the like- heck, alot of places don't even empty the pan or touch the filter before or after.

I was going to get a powerflush, until I came across this post. A little concerned, I called around and asked a couple questions. I called Thunder Racing, MTI, Fireball Automatics, and Art Carr. They all seem to avoid the powerflushing thing. Art Carr said it was a gimmick and they don't recommend it. On a side note, EVERYONE was against synthetic tranny fluid after a change!!! Wow, well I guess I just saved a bundle, I can take back all I bought and get regular ATF. I had no idea. $3.50 a quart is much better than $12 a quart.
I would have never known if it wasn't for this post getting me calling inquiring. If nothing else comes of this post, THANKS guys (especially Paul) I just saved a bundle. $12x12 quarts=$144.

also, did you know the LS1 can get low 30mpg?
really, for a econobox, hondas are the WORSE beater to drive around... for one, they're pricy.. mostly because of the r!cers.
a nice toyota or even a newer low miles kia makes a better beater car.
if you want better gas miliage and still want to be quick, get a MODERN V6 car. meaning a V6 3rdgen wont work... or any domestic V6 for that matter.
somthing like a VW VR6 is nice... good miliage, and it pushed the heavy jetta with luggage in the back into low 15s with cruddy tires..

I will sell the bitch if i'm offered the right price. But I doubt that would happen. If it did it would promptly be replaced with something else that's RWD V8 (or TIC V6).
