I know, prob been talked about but looking for 350 questions
Im looking for a 350 perferrably new or used. But questions are what should i look for in the 350 obviously low milage. But other then that i know very little.
specs: looking to spend 3-5thousand
new vs used vs broken/rebuild?
components?
i would like to simply just drop it in
-350 vs 350, L98, zz4, 350 crate
-will be an everyday driver but will take it to the track every now and then gas is an issue sort of as long as it doesn't get like 100-150k/tank its good.
-compatible with 700R4 or should i upgrade to standard T5 or something (not familiar with tranny's)
-fuel injected vs carburated (simplicity factor and lil bit gas)
- hp vs tq
ill probably have other questions later.
hope you can provide me with a lil bit of info to make a good decision

If I had a pot to **** in I would go with a carbed ZZ4 which is good for about 350 HP and can be obtained for a bit less than $5000 Cdn. It can be upgraded with cam and rockers to about 400HP or so.
There is also the HO Delux which isn't too bad and costs less.
Opinions will vary but IMO crates are a good deal and less likely to blow up in your face. Also, carbs are preferable IMO - better power to dollar ratio.
I would also swap in a Tremec T56 rather than keep the autotrans but that's a bit expensive.

3-5K????
Carb vs FI???
Go with a rebuild, it will ALWAYS be much cheaper than a crate & can make more power per dollar.....
What kind of car is it & is it your daily driver etc....?
For a mild 350HP combo, i would do this:
-350, rebuilt (355 or whatever ~9.3:1 compression)
-Edelbrock RPM Vortec intake (not sure if it clears a stock hood)
-Comp XE268 cam (if you have a roller block, i suggest the same cam in a roller series)
-Vortec Heads
-600cfm Holley
-some headers & an aftermarket exhaust
This is a very common motor, the cam will kill a tad of the low RPM torque making traction on street tires a bit easier to get, and easier on your rearend. It will be a very strong puller from 2500-5000 so lots of midrange.

question: any rebuilt 350 will do or does it have to be like a L98 or something new/old? or is it a 350 in general?
currently i have an 84 pontiac Trans AM 5L 305 non HO 4 barrel carb. Looking for something with a lil more punch. and im sick of all the ricers thinking they have chance when the line up agasint me.
another what sort of rear end would you go for with that combo?

Curtis any 350 block will do. If you have a choice, and plan on making a quick streetcar, i would go with a roller 350 block. If not, then no big deal, just with the roller you have a little more potential to make power.
For the rear gears, some 3.42 would go good, but since you have the OD transmission (700R4), a set of 3.73's would be great.

Also, talk to Louich. He's the guy with the 9.9 second Firebird. He's who built my motor for me. Anyway's he always has a few 350 and 400's laying around.
He even has one fully rebuilt sitting on an engine stand in his shops front office forsale.
P.M. If your interested and I'll get ya his number.
As for carb vs Injection. I am an injection fan, but plain truth is carberators are a much cheaper/easier bang for the buck.
Hey Hawk,
I saw the one sitting on the stand in his front office. I agree, spend half the money to buy that setup and then the other half to further increase power if wanted or to do rear diff, suspension, etc. Best bang for the buck of the options here.
