Paul told me your running Hedman full lengths. I'm wondering how good of a fit they are and if you had to modify anything. And roughly how much they cost you, if you don't mind.

howdy,

the hedmans fit pretty good. they hang down no lower than the stock oil pan. the passenger side header is tight around the frame and you have to take the starter out, out the header in, bolt up the starter, and then bolt the header to the heads. this one goes in from the top. the drivers side fits well, and goes in from the bottom.

i got the hedmans through Canadian Tire, they retail for 209.00 plus tax. i paid 154 with tax cause i saved up a bunch of CT money and had a gift certificate.

i love these headers, they gave me more ground clearance for my dual exhahust setup up and eliminated the need for 90 degree exhaust bends. they make putting in a H-pipe real easy.

any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Dave, I just remembered that those don't fit with T5's. One of my catalogues says that they're only supposed to be used with 700r4's and TH350's.

Thanks. dad made some calls and found an exhaust place in Cornwall that will custom up a y-pipe to work with the current setup. This way I can save some money.

Thanks Brad.

KevinV had one and he said it was a pain. The collector hits the tranny itself.I think he said the only solution was to notch the bellhousing and dent the collector.

The new y pipe is on. It looks sweet. And is 3" now instead of the flowtech's 2 1/2".

anyone know about hedmans y-pipe? I know it's 3" collectors but does it immediately taper down to 2.5" till it goes 3" a the cat again? How well does a 3" y-pipe fit around our pan/starter anyway?

as for specs and fit i cant really say, i have never used anything but the factory y-pipe. then i went to true duals and never looked back.

jason has the hedman y-pipe. it seemed to fit his car well enough. no real problems i dont think.

I think all of the header/y-pipe combos use a 3" y-pipe with 2.5" down tubes. AFAIC, there really isn't much point in running a 3" down tube into a single 3" y-pipe. The merge into the single 3" would become the bottleneck.

I agree the 3" merge is a bottleneck too but it's alot better having that than a mainly 2.5" y-pipe also(restriction is much sooner and hampers scavenging between heads... would make a difference in throttle response at least). Think of long tubes vs shorties that go into a single 3" pipe as well. The long tubes still can make ~15-20hp more on a healthy 350.
