AIR setup and e-tests
I was thinking down the road if i ever put headers and an exhaust setup on my car, I may convert it to a single cat setup over the dual cats, for the main reason there isn't as many options available with the dual cat setup.
If I yank the AIR setup at the same time, I'll fail the visual part of the e-test correct? If by magic a 406 happens to get swapped in a day before the etest, I could pass as a hot rod as the visual inspection only checks the gas cap for hot rods, correct?

I'd go to a single cat system - seems to be too much BS with the dual setup for what it's worth.
As for the emissions there were some posts a while back which went into all that in detail - I think the better ones were on ccfbg.com - one of the respondents had taken the minsitry certification course for all that schit so there was a lot information.

as for the AIR system itself, there is only a very small chance that it not being there it will cause you to fail the actual exhaust emissions test, but as you say, the visual inspection is where problems arise.
i think you should remove all the air stuff and then tell them you swapped in a 400 small block. chances are very, very slim they would actually look up the block casting number. go to an indepent shop where you can talk to someone and make a deal.

yes you could rip it off, but if you get stopped in a roadside check that would be a 380 dollar fine, they also could pull your liscence plates untill it passes another e-test. A bunch of people are going through this right now in kitchener waterloo. (under the hot rod classification you dont need this stuff to pass an e test, at the roadside inspections you do, they dont care what you have only what the car came with)

My car came with headers that had the air tube holes welded shut. The tubes for the manifolds are gone and the rubber hoses are plugged. I also had a 1/2" hole in my cat where an airtube was supposed to be hooked up. I passed the visual inspection and it passed the e-test very well.
I think its just a matter of where you take it.

Kevin,
You are right about the hotrod and visuals. I passed the Hotrod e-test with the Lt1. I ONLY have the gas cap.
I also have the pages from the e-test manuals as backup.
Hotrod=different engine displacement block than what was originally offered in THAT year of production (boring, stroking aside). They didn't seem to care my 350 is a genII block etc, only that it was a 350 in an 86.
