Anyone know what the dealer cost in Canada is for this motor: 24502609.
If not the dealer cost then what is the GM employee cost.
Thanx

So far I've got $5,500 from a dealer in Toronto but I'd still like to know what cost is.
Call up Golden Mile Chev/Olds on Eglinton in Scarborough and just tell them you're "George from the Impala club" and you'll get the closest thing to cost +10% of anyone out there- they just aren't motivated to attempt to rip anyone off it seems, and they like the Impala Club guys (not so much the tfbm guys it seems)- they don't care who you are really- and if you find out the price is like $3 grand- call up the Impala guys, pay them -whatever- for membership and order your engine if it can't be found cheaper elsewhere.
Apparently, my brother has access to GM U.S.'s online resources (his brother-in-law is a GM Tech somewhere in the Mid-West) but I don't know if this includes access to pricing- I'll attempt to look into this if I can find my brother in the next few days...

Thanks Eric.

George, have you considered getting a reman short block and going from there? You may wind up with more for your money.
Paul, I've considered that but I keep reading posts and talking to people where someone's built motor ends up in broken bits etc. The ZZ4 is not exactly in the bag yet and it ain't cheap but so far it seems the most reliable option.

Hmmm, I wonder if you could get yourself a LS1 6 speed combo out of a wrecked car for that price. Some fabricator (not sure of the name)is making the parts to convert the LS1 to a carb set up.

The ZZ4 is a great "drop in and go" engine. But you're right.....it sure is pricey.Originally posted by George

George:
US pricing is a "no go" access is to technical info for servicing vehicles only- no pricing, sorry.

OK Eric, thanks for looking into that. I'm probably going to do this in the fall sometime so I expect by then I'll have it sorted one way or another.

George. pick up a copy of the TRI-AD. in section A there is a Bennet Chevrolet ad. they are in Cambridge. there are 2 coupns for no tax on any GM performance parts. i believe they expire nov. 2004 and they mention crate engines in the ad i think. they seem to be big in the Gm performance parts.
Thanks Brad. I think I can get it for 30% or so off list or 10% above cost - not sure what the diffference is on that one but list is $7,100 or thereabouts - so around 5 plus tax I guess - not cheap but you only live once..lol.
wow 7 grand for a motor??? I am sure you can get a comparable set up with guarantee from Atchison Machine Warrior engines or any number of other sources for a lot less than 5 grand. Chec k it out I bet you are pleasantly surprised.

You'd be crazy to pay $5G's for a GM crate motor. Have a reputable shop build you a motor. You'll get a lot more for less $$$. And most offer warranties, and are just as if not more reliable.
Dave, how many motors have blown up on you in the last few years..lol. I hear what you're saying but supposedly reputable shops sometimes aren't - like the one here in TO that everyone went to and then it turns out they had a lot of issues and were f'cking with the data on their dyno and so on. I havn't finally decided yet but a lot of people I've talked to said if they were doing it again they'd get a crate.

Actually, I've never had one motor blow up. It just ran like ****. I just tried to take the cheap route and have a retard build my motor.
And... even when it was running like a complete bag of ****. My $1800 motor pulled on Jeffbird's ZZ4, so go with a crate, but if you have the money to spend anyways, I'd go to an "actual" shop and have them build what you want.
