I've had 5 cams in my last 383.....5.7" rod

2 hydraulic flat tappets, 1 solid flat tappet, 2 solid rollers.

Neither of them were small base circle cams......

Something tells me you didnt line the cam gear/crank gear up properly & when you rotated the motor the rods hit the cam core & snapped it.....

* Block cleaning/modifications and small base circle cam required to insure adequate clearance

all stock rods are not created the same, when adrians was originally built i was building another one as well, and the other one the rods would not clear the cam, both were stock rods, the other motor had beefier rods around the bolt areas, much thicker ans squarer than his. the other motor could not run the 575 roller mechanical cam without different rods, eagle h beams solved that, but there are a few different stock rods, so you gotta check em.....unless you wanna have a 3 peice cam....and i didn't put it in so don't look this way ...

Add me to the list of cam problems. 95% sure I wiped the exhaust lobe on #3 during breakin

She's clacking and I've tried tightening her down slowly while running and the clacking stopped... but only for a couple seconds and then it returned.

If I'm still getting good oil pressure would it be ok to just swap in a new cam/lifters without a total rebuild(depending on how eaten up the cam/lifter look too of course)??? Motor has been run for about 40 minutes.

hey rega what type of cam do you have, also could the adjustment nut be coming loose while the motor is running, i had a couple on my car that kept coming loose, when i replaced the retaining nut, every thing stayed adjusted how it was suppose to.

Hmm... I'm not exactly sure actually. When I was adjusting with the motor running it was dark out so I couldn't see all too well. I didn't want to start the motor up again but it might be worth it just to be sure eh?

Hawk... I forget what cam you had before... was it from CC's XE line as well? That XE268H is probably the most popular cam out there... should even be able to pass etesting with it easily.

If my cam is for sure done then I'm not sure what cam I'm going to replace it with. I blame myself for the bad lobe but I have read about quite a few peep as of late getting bad lobes from CC's XE line. Guess it comes with the territory as the XE line does have the most agressive ramp rates of the street/strip cams out there too tho.

Old cam was a XE256H, so ya same line just two sizes smaller. The lobe I took off wasnt a manufacture fault, it was a hunk of plastic caught in spring fault

I am hopeing to pass emisions, it passed last time with flying colours.

Are you removing your inner valve springs to breakin your new cam? I know you have AFR190's, I have the 195's and the seat pressure is 120 on both sets which is supposed to be ok but some still take em out... I never took mine out nor did I test each spring to be sure on spec'd pressure to being with.

How soon are you putting in the new cam?

It's only got fire/theft on it right now. I was hoping to get it to dyno day and see if there was a big diference plus get it to the track one last time this year, unfortunetly time seems to be running out.
