Wet & Dry Line
The idea with the wet line is to use the grit on the edge of the track for extra grip:

Makes sense George. Especially when you're running a dry competition tire. I've seen races where cars would take odd lines in corners when it got wet(not just to avoid puddles or spills/debris) but I'm still curious what the whole point of that exercise is? Just to show there's more grip in the outer lines?
That'd be a great exercise to hone passing lines as well.

I think the purpose of it was just to make a demo video for the Porshe Club website which is where I got the file. They run a lot of track days at Mosport so their members would be interested. It's quite a radical change from the the dry line so someone telling you to stay on the outside is not quite the same as seeing it done.
At 9b you can hear the instructor tell him to almost stop and then a make 90* right turn across what would be the dry line.
It works well. I found in karts even with slicks you could stay out in damp conditions by using the edges of the track - although once it really starts to rain you're done..lol.

HO HO HO... Where???:)
I have heard of this before. Something about the stones embedded in the asphalt being "sharper" and not as smooth giving up a wee bit more bite than the dry line where the stones are polished smooth? Er something like that anyway. Regardless if there are too many marbles... giddy yup

Where??
Well, the Canadian Championships in Quebec for one - practiced in the rain from Wed to Friday but it was dry for the race. Qualified fourth out of about 40 entrants in the national class but around 4 laps into the race a soon to be Williams driver launched himself off my back wheel right in front of his grandparents' motor home - I didn't see the video but I was told that it must have reminded them of his father's accident at Spa.
Anyway, the race was stopped and this guy's uncle Jacque took over the drive but didn't do anything with it which was surprising given his experience.
We both had to start at the the back as a result of doing repairs under the red flag. I got back up to 7th after spending a long time behind some joker whom I eventually bumped off the track when no-one was looking..lol but I'd lost touch with the leaders by a long way. I'd also lost touch with the motor as it was 4-stroking on the straights which cost me some time trying to pass people but wouldn't have made any real difference all things considered.
This was back when I could make the weight limit for CIK National and International - now I need something that has it's HP measured in the 100s..lol.

Cool.
Its been a while since I have been anywhere near a race track so next season is going to be worth some laughs at my expense to be certain
Hopefully only the expense of my pride though

I've also heard that there tends to be more oils on the track on the 'regular' line, so when it rains less traction is available, so moving off the line although you have reduced traction from more water on the track , you get the benefit of not running on wet oil.
Makes sense..
