Possible Ticket Trouble

Okay, so this is my first ticket, so Im a little freaked out. 4 years of driving.

Okay, I am driving my 2 friends home who were drinking home in my parents mini van, like any respectable DD I didnt have anything except sprite and nachos. It's past 2:00 in the morning. So this person taps on my window, and shows me a badge at a red light. And says he is an off-duty cop coming home from work. He says he is going to serve me with a ticket at my house, because I went through a red light and was driving recklessly. He was following me in his personal car, because on a right turn I squeled the tires. The red light I ran through was a left hand turn where the regular lights were green but the left turn light was red, and there was NOONE around at all. I never speeded.

I didnt break the speed limit, I just cornered without slowing down much. I know the limitations of the car. The tires are cheap, so they squel. The red light thing was illegal, but not dangerous, but I have no problem paying for it because I was in the wrong there.

Well I dont know how much crap I am in. I am only on my G2 (last step to full liscense). I know my parents would back me, or wouldnt care because they know me and the way I drive and they approve of my doing the bigger service in driving people who have been drinking home.

Can anyone tell me?

PS: If this is too off topic you can delete it... im just worried out of my mind, and just want some clarity.

Take it to court and fight it. He wasn't in uniform, it wasn't a proper traffic stop, you did nothing wrong. Chirping tires happens all the time, rubber tends to do that on asphalt.

By the way, there were a bunch of retards last summer driving around in regular cars impersonating cops, but i think they got caught. Did he follow you home and write you a ticket. technically i think the only way you could have gotten a ticket legally, is if he called for an on-duty officer to come to where you's were, and have him write you the ticket.

I bet it's just someone ***'n with you. There are laegal steps to do stuff like that, and he didn't follow it, so it wouldn't hold up. If you recieve something, take it to a local station, ask if it's legit. Explained what happened, and tell them your fighting it in court.

If they even let it go to court you'll easily win.

You have nothing to worry about. Take that one to court and smash it!! I hate cops, I just got a ticket yesterday in my Z and the cop was on a power trip. Took my girlfriends lisence and mine then screamed at me to keep my hands on the wheel. Dick head held me there for half an hour and would not let me take my hands off the wheel. I was honest when he asked me if I had cats (cause I don't) so he did not give me a ticket for it due to my fantastic excuse.lol I bet you won't even see a ticket in the mail, he was just trying to play the hero and knew there was not much he could do off duty. Probably had his women in the car with him trying to be the big man.lmao

Forget the court- IF a ticket arrives- call up the officer's Division Commander and give them a earful- mentioning the "red light window rap" and the badge that was too dark and too fast to see, etc. etc. If that gets you nowhere- go to the Crown Attorney's office and state you want to speak with them before going to court. People rapping on windows is BS. As a note for future reference- next time such a thing happens ask the officer for the badge- and study it- and write down the info- this gets some officers uptight- especially when they're not in uniform with a ticket book handy- and they may just go away. Also note- you don't have to stop your vehicle on the road that isn't clearly a peace-officers vehicle- i.e. flashing/rotating back and forth front headlights- if they are a legitimate police officer- they'll radio for a marked car to show up and assist. As far as I am aware, cops driving around in their personal vehicles are not in a position of authority to be handing out HTA violations- only criminal code violations if they witness them first-hand.
