Need new engine...

I am in the market for a new engine. My 305 has had about enough abuse from me.

Stock 350, modded 350, 355 etc... anything really, within a decent price range of course. I'm located in Scarborough, Ontario. Email me if you'd rather not post here. Thanks

If your willing to come to ottawa i'm sure i could intruduce you to a few local engine builders that could put something together for you

Actually if you want let me know and i'll get you in contact with the guy who built the heads for my 350..I found he had really good prices for the work he did. He also re-built my dad's '71 455 H.O.

SCOTTY'S ENGINES.....only person i trust.

Slow, but good. VERY fair pricing, and tells you/shows you straight up what you need.

Dave, i bet you he wouldnt charge more than a couple hundred bucks to fix you up, if you just need a hone/re-ring.

Cruzn..yea i'm Kyle.

I've been by D&D performance in chesterville quite a few times(havent had engine work done)i usually stop in from time to time and see whats up, and pick up any parts i need.

The work that i've had done for my engine was done by "Mild to Wild engines"

Hey carm you still have your old motor around..you should talk steve into buying it.He'll get the results he wants with that i'm sure.

Interesting

I blew or tore or snapped or fried something in my engine. Think it is seized...have given up on it until spring. This may be the push I need to go with a ridiculous upgrade.
Funny how this thread comes to life just as I need it. If the price were right, however, a rebuild is definitely an option...

Is Scotty the engine builder a Kemptville area guy? Does he drive an old grocery getter with a stroked 383?

This could be nice for someone

LS1 For Sale

I hate having to get stuff from the States, but that seems to be where all of the good stuff is.

It includes all of the accessories, wiring harness, computer,
4L60E approx 90k miles.

Hes looking for 2 grr US for the engine or 2500 for engine and tranny. He is in Cincinatti. Doesn't want to ship, but mentions something about meeting half way. Maybe someone could convince him to bring it up to the border.

Happy buying for someone.

Yeah, I need to call him back, though he's probably not open on the weekend, so I'll try next week.

I think the moron that did my block didn't check the clearances and just stuck in std. bearings, thats why i kept losing my oil pressure when the oil warmed up, I tested the pump and it's fine.

That sucks cruiz'n, the same thing happened to me for my first rebuild!! That coupled with another mistake made for a nasty knock in the first 2 hours of break-in driving. I think my first builder thought I was a bank machine. (was a friend, so guess who paid for the mistake)

I've set up to have him do my shortblock, but with the weather, and his lack of answering the phone, it's hard to confirm a time, day, or where he actually is.
I want to drop it off tomorrow DEFINITELY cause the weather is so mild, i can actually drive the truck in it.

Ok, got my engine. Now I've talked to a few people and for the amount of money to port out my 305 heads, I might as well bind for a new set. What are you're suggestions? Keep in mind, 300-350Hp with 400-450Tq and around 9:5.1 comp. If it goes up to 10:1 than whatever. Now I had a cam picked out for what I was going to run before but with these new heads and the possibility of an LT1 intake, that's going to change. So use this as the setup...

350 4bolt main
LT1 intake
Cam?
heads?
hedman shorties/ypipe
3"cat
custom catback with chambered mufflers

Now I know all the little things aren't mentioned like injectors and what have you, but I'll be updating everything else as well. I would just like to hear what you guys think would be a cool and sufficient combo for a street performance car.

*EDIT*

Yeah I just woke up when I posted that. I think I'm going to have anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500 for this engine. I need to focus on a few other parts of the car as well as the motor so it needs to be spread out a bit. I'd love to pick up an LT1 intake used around here if I could get it, but if not I'll be using the ported TPI stuff. Would the LT1 intake bolt up nicely with the 305 heads? I have the 416's correct?

Thats lots.

I'd get some decent heads and an Hot Cam, with the LT1 intake it should be a fun car. Keep the runner size around 180, go too huge and the lt1 intake would be pointless, well tpi for that matter with a huge port is useless.

just curious... What did they quote you to port your 305 heads ?? What was, was not included?

you do realise that a LT-1 EFI intake manifold will not "bolt up" to 305 heads.
The bolt patern is way differnt and the water passages do not line up.

It can be modified to work on Gen1 older heads, but is not a bolt on deal.

Yes I know this, that's why I'm going for the LT1 heads/intake combo. I don't know about the pricing, I guess it varies with the shop you get it done at.

Also, LT1 heads will not work on a non LT1 block without coolant passage massaging. Just an FYI in case you didn't know.

The block I have is from '79. What heads could I use with the LT1 intake then?

Any of the standard small block heads will work, I think.

I wouldn't spend any money on a set of 305 heads though

Sorry to be off topic, but where exactly in scarborough do you live? The reason I ask is that I see a GTA exactly like your's every morning when I go to work. It's been in the driveway for the past little while and I haven't seen it on the street. Just curious....

As for your search, there's only 2 guy's on this planet I trust with my car. Andy and Pat at Straight line racing. I've been dealing with them for the past 8-9 years and they are the BEST!

(Not too many shop owners have their own 2000+ HP 6 second BigBlock Camaro's they built themselves sitting in their shops They know their stuff.

They're currently helping me with my 396 LT1 build up. They'll build you anything your budget will allow.

For the life of me though, I can't remember the exact name of the street though, (it's one of those odd names ) but it's just off Kennedy Rd. here is Scarborough. I'll be passing by it tomorrow on my way to work so I'll let you know the name of the side street they're located on.

wow this is so weird, lol! I live on Ranstone and yes that would be my car. It's been sitting for a few weeks, where abouts are you located? In the same area? You wouldn't happen to be the dude with the blue-ish grey iroc or the red 4thgen that sounds like hell coming down the road would you that lives on Chopin? Yea I was considering Andy to build my engine but I was concerned with pricing. Munham is the street that Straight Line is on. My buddy had his new TKO600 and Torque arm installed there. Wasn't cheap but than again, look at the parts.

EDIT: Yea it's you. Just finished looking at your domain page. Awesome bird and camaro dude.

Yeah I figured that was your car I kept seeing but in your sig it's says "Toronto" so I was like... "Nah, can't be him, this other guy lives on Ranstone"

Yes it's me that drives the Firebird that sounds like hell It is a bit on the loud side isn't it You shoud hear it when I run open headers.

And the Iroc by the way- is dark navey blue. The "greyish" that you're seeing is from all the salt and snow and crap on the streets. I spent $15 two days ago on one of those fancy "brushless" car washes on the way home from work and by the time I got home 25min later, you'd never know I had the car washed. It looked grey all over again

Straight Line isn't the cheapest place to do engine work- believe me, I know that, but once you get to know them better (like on a first name basis like I do) you'll find that they'll give you deals when it comes to labour costs. Andy has saved me literally thousands over the years.

Keep in mind though that when it comes to building an engine, you don't want some yahoo "shadetree" mechanic doing the work. Not unless you don't mind having your motor fall apart 2 weeks later and you ave to do it all over again

You get what you pay for at Straight Line. It's not just an excellent job, it's "peace of Mind" your buying when you go there and that to me is worth the extra money.

Does you're car even run now? Or is it parked for the winter?

Maybe we could meat up some time. It's always good to meet other car nuts like me. Most of my friends suck and aren't into cars at all. Either that or they're into Mustangs Booooooo!! Mustangs

Yea it sits for the winter. I have the jetta to beat around in during these months. Oh I have heard it with the open headers. One day I went by on givendale with you and you're buddy filming a burnout! lol! I was like SIIICCK!. My engine is either going to Straight Line or this place called Full Throttle Racing at 401/Brock Rd. I know a few guys that go there, one of them has an '86 Vette with a 4.2 V6 Turbo that runs consistant 9's on pump gas, and they tell me good things. Yea, the color of your camaro is amazing. I know it's you coming down the road, besides a few other 3rdgens in the neighborhood. I think theres a yellow one and a white one? I don't know, all I know is that I'm the only 3rdgen Bird You have msn? Add me if yah do, Speed_Demon440@hotmail.com and we'll talk cars. I'm sure you know you're engines so I could get some insight from you on what I'm going to be doing with my engine.

Jesus, it really is a small world. LOL. I've still got that video on my camcorder. Wish I knew how to post it though. Gotta go out and buy the proper firewire cable though to connect it to my PC. The one for my MAC isn't interchangable with PC.

I've got you on film man. x 1000

I would go to Straight Line Racing myself.

There's a Christmas Party at FTR tomorrow night. You could drop by and talk to them for a bit.

I've heard nothing but good things about Straight Line from many many people. That would be my choice. His pricing isn't that high, just go talk to him
