TA vs. buick?

Ok guys, I have one here for you... I have a '90 trans am, has a '91 Camaro Z28 engine and trans... trans has a b&m shift kit in it, and 2.73 gears. no other real mods to the engine... Yet. How do you think this would do against this:

'83 GMC sierra full size pickup
455 big block Buick (yes I said buick, that's not a typo)
Carter AFB 750 CFM
35' tires
4.10 rear gears (open rear end)
th-350 trans

What do you think? does the TPI 350 stand a chance against it?

If it is built right and he can drive...HE WILL DESTROY YOU.

The 455 Buick is the best 455 GM has released. Yes, that's right. A test has been done, and for the same amount of money and the same mods, Buick will demolish Pontiac and down the Rocket even harder.
The 455 Buick is potentially a dangerous foe.

Well, the engine is definitely built up... it has .030 over keith
black (?) hypereutectic pistons, with 11.0 : 1 compression ratio,
there's a nice sized cam in there, I can't remember the grind on it. I think this engine is currently producing 450+ horsepower.

That's a really nasty engine there, man. But on the positive side, he should fry his tires...oh, wait, he has big tires...Damn, I don't think there is a positive side.

Haha, no, no positive side here... I'm wondering what it would take to get my 350 to win this one without spending too much cash. any suggestions?

brody those were my sentiments exactly,

honestly dude, get him to go from a fast roll. 60 ish,

go with a set of 3.73s and spray, with
his tires being that big, he is almost back into highway gear territory.

hope to hell you can holeshot him, and try to stay out.

sound advice... thanks for the replies. This may prove to be a challenge. I'm going to be porting the intake and such as well... We'll see. The only thing I can see here with this combo is he'll be turning some pretty hi R's once his speed gets up there, which may prove to be a hindrance to his top speed...

He may still make it to the 100-120 area, but I would never have 4.11s. If I get that Mustang Coupe that I'm always referring to, I'll toy with the 4.11 for a while, but it will be going for something in the 3.23-3.90 area.

I know this doesnt really have anything to do with your question but i saw an interesting Pontiac vs. Buick race a couple weeks ago that this post reminded me of. A late 90's buick with a 3800 beat a 6 cylinder 2002 firebird by 3 car lengths. I dont know about you guys, but i thought it woulda been a lot closer than that.

The quickest factory 455 pontiacs were in the '73 + '74 455 SD T/As and Formulas, They ran a best of 13.55 back in the day.
The quickest factory 455 buick was the '70 GS + GSX with the 455 stage 1 (the stage 2 was never installed by buick except in 2 cars wich were sold to drag racers of the time),They ran a best of 13.34 back in the day. Both of this cars were run on the junk stock tires that came on them off the show room floor.Either of thease cars can run 12s in the 1/4 with good modern tires.

He should be able to roast the tires with all that torque, cause when my dad had a 76 Ford with a built 460 with 35 inch tires, he could fry them, of course that's a different engine...

with 35 inch tires, like i said, he is almost back into HIGHWAY gear territory, so with a three speed auto he could be looking at 140 mph on the top end.

dude, just get nitrous and gears. BFG drag radials hook well. but wont last too terribly long.

N2O and gears seem to be the peoples's choice. I'm definitely going to have to do something. But I still have plenty of time for now. This won't be until may or june that I need it.

Solid Lifter...I was actually speaking more of potential than factory.
Though, Pontiac has put out some heavy cars, I'd say that Olds and Buick have had a REAL weight problem for a long time. Well, they don't anymore. So Buick winning means something. I wish I knew more about that little test.

Would 4wd be a good idea for a speed-based truck? I wonder.

I think speed is a byproduct on this buildup... he built the truck to do pulls with. Either way it's a pretty nasty combo.
