I have just instaled spohn's T.A and the rear OEM bolts M14*2.0*185 (grade 10) are a bit short. I know that spohn sells a 9/16" bolt that is a little longer, but I don't want to have to buy them from him.
Princess Auto doesn't have them, Home depot doesn't have any metric or standard bolts that are long enough and I've been to Brafasco out in Brampton and although the customer service rep sais that the bolts are available - he hasn't gotten back to me to tell me if he can get them
Anyone know where I should try next? metric or standard would be fine in an appropriate grade. I don't want to by 3' of rod (like Brafasco hinted at
which costs about $40.00 for the appropriate grade/strengh) specially since I won't use the extra length, it costs a fortune and finally I would have to weld a top nut to the rod to make a 'quasi' bolt....
Can you tell that I'm frustrated
Thanks

If you still can't find any, and there's a Tractor(John Deere, New Holland) or Implement(Morris, Brandt) dealership anywhere around then it would be worth dropping by and checking with them. They've usually got a quite a selection of bolts and fastners in house since most stock parts for tractors from way, way back. I work at a John Deere/New Holland dealership when not in school and all the bolts I've ever needed for my '69' truck, '85' Camaro or '95' Bonneville I've just taken off the shelf so to speak. I'm just saying, that's an often overlooked source for bolts and such.

You should be able to find what you need at boltdepot.com
I have ordered from them before, and their service and selection are great. In fact, I actually think I ordered some hardened 9/16 bolts that ended up being wrong for my application. Let me check and measure them to see if they'll work for you. If not, check out that website.

Hello,
In France, all the bolts and nuts are in metric sizes...
If you want, I can tell you how much do what you need cost.
I think shipping is not very expensive to US...
I'm not a seller, just a french camaro lover who can help you.
The only problem, I will be on holidays for 3 weeks.
So if you are interested, I can search the parts you need after 5th of may.
Tell me what you need, and I'll try to find the best price before this week.

Bull,
thanks for the link - just got off the phone with them - no luck - bolts are too long? They did give me the website to mdmetric.com - but they only ship with minmum orders of 10 peices and they were closed, so I will call tomorrow. Let me know about the 9/16" you got...
Lostsol- great idea will check it out.
wahoo - will keep you in mind - thanks
Anyone else with local (GTA, Ontario) ideas - if possible this is the way I would like to get them - shipping and duties are a royal PIA - this is the reason I haven't called spohn yet to order a set of his 9/16"....
Thanks

Just went and found those 9/16 that I have...unfortunately, they are only 115mm long.
I'm sorry I can't help...I thought they were a bit longer than that.

Try S.B Simpson. There in Mississauga and Brampton. I'm sure some are out in T.O. Not sure of the number.

I guess I don't know what kind of area you're in, but like I said any farm/ranch type store or implement shop/truck shop should have something that'll work. The only things you really need to match are diameter, hardness(go harder if you like), and thread pitch. Most Metric bolts increase length in increments of about five millimeters unless you're looking for a specialty item. And if you take one of your original bolts in, that greatly simplifys the ease in matching all your parameters since the hardness is usually stamped on the head. If you can find a store/dealership I can almost guarentee they'll have something in stock that will work, no waiting. Take care now...
Are you sure you can't reuse your stock bolts without using a washer at the top, and using a washer at the bottom?
I did this and it woked fine on mine made from 1/4" plate (TA mount).
These are specially made bolts, don't think you'll find them.

6speed,
At this point I have just about 1* the diameter of the bolt width covered by the nuts while torquing them to factory specs. I think this should be fine but?..... I had ground down the powder coating on the rear bracket to get the darn bracket to fit over the dif and like sphons instructions suggested I did not re-use the two (per bolt) OEM washers.

Does the end of the bolt extend past the end of the nut?

No the end of the bolt does not pass through the nut - it's just short (very close). General engeneering rule for static load is that thread engagement should be 2/3 the diameter of the bolt - so for a 1/2" bolt you want at least 2/3 of the 1/2" of thread engagement. With dynamic load I am told things change and that with vibration, heat etc... you should have atleast 1* the diameter - This is the principle that I am attempting to achieve.
I don't want to fail an SCCA or CASC tech inspection so this is why I am being a bit **** - Just want to be sure
Daz - that Tel# is (4) - 251-7635 Thanks
