to to get my T-56 rebuilt?

Hey all, I did a T-56 swap in my 84 Z28 two years ago and i'm starting to notice some problems coming up with the trans itself.I've got a mildly dont small block behind it(roughly 420hp at the crank). But i want to go bigger...about 200HP bigger and i know the trans wont take that in it's current state. To be honest i dont know how much longer it will take what it's got for much longer.

I'm looking for recomendations of where to send my T-56 for a performance rebuild. It's out of a 96 LT-1 car.I'm located in the ottawa area, but i'm more than willing to bring the trans up to the GTA if need be.

For the kind of power you're talking about trying to get out of the motor I'd suggest looking at a Tremac 600.

If you want to go local, have you tried Barry McLaughlin in Stittsville?
He's at 6 Carleton Cathcart St, and specializes in GM stuff. Not sure about the T56's though. They will take big power with some minor upgrades..

With the $600 rebuild kit from six speeds inc the t56 can handle 700 rwhp believe it or not. If you dont feel up to the rebuild yourself they do it for you for $350 more. They have kits for clutchless shifting that can take insaneo amounts of power. I've had a few t56's now and love them. I'm curently pushing over 400 rwhp through a stock t56 with no problems at all. See link.

What's a ballpark price for a used T56 these days.

A complete set up goes for around 2K or slightly less. This would include trans, bell housing, shifter, good clutch/flywheel, hydraulics, and sometimes pedals.

For a trans alone less accessories I bought one for 1200 bucks but its a way better deal to buy a complete unit than to piece it together yourself. I thought I had landed a bargain but I spent over 1600 just getting all the other parts together. That was my first one so live and learn. Clutch options back then were ridiculous too. Crap quality and steep costs. I never really did get a LT1 style clutch that I liked. There are a few good options apparently out now though.

I'm now running a stock LS7 Vette clutch and flywheel and absolutely love it. Stock pedal feel but I cut a 1.69 60' on this thing

Fireball is right near Winchester and are known for their transmissions all over. I had them rebuild my T5 a few years back.

Just in case anyone in interested in GTA area shops:

Gears & Rears Parts Ltd
Telephone: (905) 602-6973
3289 Lenworth Drive C
Mississauga, ON

He's a wholesaler and rebuilds manuals and rears for other shops around the GTA. They have no installation facilities and only accept taken out units for repair/rebuild. He also stocks/sells parts like t5 gears, bearings, etc.

I haven't had stuff done by him in a while, but always had the T5 parts I needed in stock and like about 20 T5s waiting to be done so he must be one of the major manual tranny rebuilders in the GTA.
