what is your emision test results?

Just curious. Did you pass the first time? If not what did you do to correct it and what was the cost.

Squeeked by, I had just finished my upper level engine rebuild and I had not put the car on a timming gun. They had to get the cat really hot in order for it to pass.

I haven't got my Drive Clean reminder yet - my birthday is in the fall. I don't have the AIR hooked up anymore (pump is seized) since I put in the SLP headers and full exhaust. I understand from the other boards here that you should have the car really warmed up when you do the test so that the CAT is working optimally. Hopefully I can pass OK. The motor has never been touched inside so I do get the blue puff of smoke at startup (bad valve seals) but she runs great otherwise!!

i failed badly without my air... some places won't even test if it is missing.... unless you know someone be prepared to reinstall it... i had to reweld a diaphragm into my collector pipe of my headers since i didnt have air tubes on my headers... I hope it will be enough

Anyone with a TPI and 160 thermostat try the emisions test yet? I'm thinking maybe I should reduce my fuel pressure from 50 back down to about 47psi and make sure it's hot enough.

That's if I get the car on the road this year, looking for house

Here is an the word on hotrods from the drive clean web site:

Question:What happens if I change(d) the motor in my Light-Duty vehicle?

Answer: If the vehicle is included in the program (appropriate age, registered in the program area), it will be considered a hot rod if the motor differs from what was originally offered by the
manufacturer for that particular model year. Up until 2001, all hot rods will be tested
according to emission standards for 1980 vehicles. In 2001 and afterwards, vehicles
registered as model years of 1999 or earlier will continue to be tested according to 1980
emission standards. Vehicles registered as model year 2000 and later will be tested
according to emission standards for their model year. Vehicles built to non-Canadian
standards but imported into Canada will be tested similarly. Other specialty vehicles
registered as kit cars or 're-built' will be tested similarly in 1999 and 2000 and then tested according to appropriate emission standards for the model year.

ZFORCE,

Does that mean I can classify my car as a hot rod and use the 1980 emissions parameters since I have modified the car somewhat?

I am not sure what that statement is supposed to mean! I guess when you take your car in you will have tell the technician that your car has been modified and should be tested under the 1980 guidelines as per the statement from the website.

That is the process I am going to take when I receive the notice next year.

I'm not sure I get it.Does that mean my 1992 camaro will be evaluated as an '80 ? I imagine they still want all the emmisions equipment to be there.I'm just hoping for the best when it gets to my area.

Definition of Hot Rod for Drive Clean purposes: hot rod - "means a motor vehicle in which the original motor has been replaced with a motor of a type not installed by the manufacturer on that model of motor vehicle for the model year designated for the motor vehicle by the manufacturer". These are the exact words from the Drive Clean pdf file on the website http://www.driveclean.com/ so that means that I will have to pass the emissions test for my year of vehicle.

Got my car tested yesterday and it passed. I was about to fall on the floor laughing because the car should NOT of passed. The guy goes out and checks for leaks - I think he was a janitor, not a mechanic. There's only one bolt connected to the cadalidic converter and then there's a hole where the pipe was cut and reconnected using a "not-done-by-a-mechanic" method. Second, you could actually HEAR an exhaust leak near the engine. I didn't even think they'd put it on the dino, but they did and she passed. I did do some things to help out though: I used that "guaranteed to pass" stuff, put in premium (god, it's expensive) gas and did an oil change. You might want to do the same if you're going for a test soon. Oh, this was done at a dealership too, just so you know.

Well i passed my retest... just barely!! i was just under the HC limit by 3 ppm... As for the HotRod route... I had many heated arguments with Driveclean Tech Reps... Basically if you have a non original block in your car that was not manufactured for that model year then you are a hot Rod... For example... if you have an 88 Iroc with a 400 Small Block that is a hot Rod.. If you have an 88 Iroc with an engine that has been bored out .030 with Aftermarket ignition headers high performance cam etc... that is not a Hot Rod...
I asked the question.." so if i have a Chevette an it only came with a 1.9l 4cyl and i put a 2l 4cyl in it is that a hot Rod?"

answer: "Yes, if that engine was not avalable that year"

My reply: "But my car isnt? that s bullsheet!

But i reinstaled my smog pump and ran an airline into my crossover pipe and ran Sunoco 94 octane and passed... Yippy...

My Z28 has an LT1 block from a '70 vette with an aftermarket 400 crank. What will my results be cross referenced with?

What if I just told the tech. that I have a 355ci from a vette? How will he know if it is the original engine or not. These tests go quick will they have the time to check all the numbers from the block?

It depends if the tech wants to crawl around with a wire brush and a mirror to identify the block. I have an L69 motor with a "GM 350 hp cam" in it and the car originally came with an LG4, so to my way of thinking, it's certainly "changed" or "modified" and should be classified as a hot rod. However, I have emailed DriveClean several times over the last couple of years to clarify this and each time I get a different answer. When my time comes in November 2002, it will probably be up to the tech that does it. I'm also missing an EGR valve and the charcoal cannister plumbing for it, although I put in a cannister from another Camaro and connected it to the gas tank vent tube. The car also does not have an AIR pump system and I don't even know if it's supposed to, since my '83 LG4 didn't. However, the engine does have L82 Corvette valve covers, so maybe I can convince them it's a Corvette engine.
