GATHERING-??????
I know it's been asked or talked about a couple of times now, but I'm wondering if everyone wants to organize a gathering of some kind. Even just to meet each other. (But doing something would make the trip more fun, drag racing or something - or all racing down the 401 trying to outrun the cops
Just Kidding.
But sometime during the summer that would be good for everyone.
PS I suck at organizing things, I'm a "leave everything to the last minute" person.

I think most of the people who have responded are into a gathering. I'm not good at organizing things either. I might give mosport a call and find out what is involved in organizing a track day.

I would love to have a gathering. We need to decide when and where and if anyone will be able to attend. My vote is for MoSport but that may be hard to arrange (and expensive).

Yeah, I guess I could see most of us frying our brakes. I don't mind giving my car a good hard run every once in awhile, they can handle it, but I don't really want to limp home with any major damage. BUT, I would still love to road coarse it at least once in my life. I'm all for it. But if anybody is ify, I'dd even settle for drags. I'dd like to do something that everyone is willing and wanting to do. It's all about fun and meeting new people, not about being too distracted or nervous to have fun. It seems a gathering is all being agreed upon, so lets start rolling.
Lets all start with our inputs of time, event, place, etc. We can all want it, but we also all gotta make it a reality.
I'm all for Shannonville or Mosport, I could care less about which, I'll go to either.
I'll have to double check with wife, (well fiancee) to see what is good for us, (I want her to come with me) but almost any weekend from now till fall but the Aug. 24,25 weekend. (Plus I think there is 2 mor in the summer - my wife's family's birthdays.
I'll get back with exact dates that are bad for me though.
Check your date books and announce bad dates back so everyone can get on the same page boys.

We could even go and shoot some pool or something that would get everyone talking about cars and things
But I'm game for a run to the track (if I'm not working and the wife hasn't booked me for something else)

I got thinking more last night, a couple steps to try to get a gathering going. It's just a start, anyone can cut it down, agree, or change what they want.
As I said earlier, everyone go through their datebooks and come up with dates that are good or bad for them.
We see which dates we all have that are good, then call Mosport, Shannonville, and whoever else there is and ask which dates we have that they will let us on to play. If we are looking for a place to go, this may be what diciates it, there may be only one opening that is with our dates.
If the 2001 season is booked for our dates everywhere we try, we may have to go to an open night to the public that falls on a date of ours. (Something like an open cruise night at Shannonville's dragway - I hope they still have it. Or even London's strip.)
There'll be other cars there, (like 5.0's and GN's) but at least we can all hang out togeather and introduce our selves.
So far on my datebook, dates that are bad for me are:
July 14, 28
August 23-27
I'll get back with more, my wife has to check the rest of her work schedule - there will be more.
This is all I can think of now, I have a couple other ideas, but their only useful for later stages.
LETS GET THINGS GOING PEOPLE, I'M AN IDIOT WITH THIS KIND OF STUFF, SO ANY INPUT OR IDEAS IS NEEDED. LETS PUT SOME FACES AND CARS TO THESE NAMES, A GATHERING IS POSSIBLE TO DO.
Sorry for being so long.

I wouldn't mind going to Cayuga.. However Mosport on one of those tracks I don't really want to do right now because I am already in dept enough and I know my brakes can't take that stuff (stock brakes from 86). I would normally love to try a track like that but I can't afford to brake anything. Plus I'm sure the $20 for drag racing is cheaper than Mosport anyways.

I'd like to try the drag racing as well - never done that with my car. It would be nice to see how fast my car really is and if any of the modifications helped at all. My brakes can't handle Mosport or Shannonville - it would be nice to get them upgraded but I can't see that this year.

A meeting sounds awesome guys. I'm pretty close to Mosport, so you have my vote if I'm free. I have two friends who have 3rd Gens and they'd go for sure.
Stupid question, but I'm new, so don't laugh.
Why do stock breaks go bad on a race track? Just curious.

Why do stock breaks go bad on a race track? Just curious. Chappy,
The stock disc brakes on all third gens except the ones with the 1LE brake package were very weak. It's a single piston caliper that presses into the center of the brake pad. What happens with repeated hard use (like on a race track) is the center of the brake pad takes all the braking force while each end of the brake pad warps (literally deforms the backing plate) outward and does not provide any braking force. So the center of the pad wears right down to the rivets while the ends of the pad are perfectly fine. Hence, your brakes are toast. The 1LE package was developed by GM for the Camaro/Firebird Motorsports series (at Mosport and Shannonville among other race tracks) in the late 80s and made it into production. It is a dual piston caliper arrangement with larger front rotors and eliminates the pad warpage while providing much better stopping power. Hope this answers your question.

To everyone else, I guess depending on where you live, TFBM.org has some regularly scheduled events and I try to make it out to everyone of them. Even if you don't want to participate in the AutoX or dragway, you can always come out to watch and chat with others.

Here's an Idea. Since we are a dying breed or at least it seems that way. We should all meet at a Tim hortons. You know the ones were all the HONDA boys gather and talk like there cars are fast.....well.....they are fast....if I spent $14'000 on air filters and fancy lights id be bragging to..NOT!!!. Anyway can you imagine the looks we'd get when a heap load of Firebirds and Camaros come thundering through the parking lot...at the same time. At least we can educate these people as to what a car is supposed to sound like...lets face it...If i want to here high performance hondas...I can fart myself. Anyway Im serious we should show are stuff and show these rice rockets that American Muscel is still alive

I dunno how well that would work out. All those ricers won't race any of our cars. They will say they are heavy and slow and make up a stupid excuse why they can't race. I have it happen all the time in my camaro since a few of my friends have imports all I ever hear is "My import handles a million times better than your car its so much lighter! I get more HP per litre than you I have better traction. You wouldn't stand a chance!" Then I pop the question "Wanna race?" Then they say "No" and follow up with some stupid reason why they can't. They WILL NOT listen to reason trust me you can't talk any sence to a ***** no matter how many facts you have the just refuse to listen to reason.

I dont care if the ricers want to race. They just make me sick with all there crap. Like seriously, where is the benefit in driving with your front seatback all the way in the back seat. See the difference between them and us or should I say Mice and Men? Is that us guys learned about our cars and did the mods our selves. Thats what Its all about...the satiisfaction of doing it yourselves. These ***** YingYangs just dump money and think they know about cars. I just want to fill up a parking lot with our cars, cause theres really nothing common about them anymore. The ricers are so geeky...no grease under the nails...no what I mean? Then we can all hit the bar or something.

I just found out about the Southern Ontario post. I am definitely up for a gathering. I reccommend Grand Bend... it is the best cruise spot in Ontario, and there is a drag strip 5 min away.
well i just got my car but i aint got no liscence and i didnt completely buy it either... i have the car but no plates or insurance and i aint got no liscence... so anytime after the 21st should be fine 4 me... cuz i get liscence then

Lets do this thing. Everyone should post when they would be available. Should it be 1 day or a whole weekend? Any driving or are we just gonna get together and run our mouths? I don't know if a bar type deal would be best. Some of us are not legal and our cars allready attract enough unwanted attention.

I say Grand Bend thunder by the beach labour day week-end. Those that want to race can race for like $20, and it is a huge party. You can camp right at the track. The beach is 5 min away, and there is always a wicked concert on the Sunday. Big Sugar is there this week-end!
What does everyone think about the windsor weekend at Grand bend motorplex??? I'm in Belle River (just outside of windsor)and it takes me about 2 hours to get there so i think it is about 3 or so from Toronto (doing the speed limit that is) so that seems kind of in the middle. It is just a thought, camping is free on the weekend and it is 12$ a day to watch racing and it is 25$ for test and tune on the friday night. It is on september 14-16. what are the feeling about this???
It is official, i am going to be at the windsor weekend. There is a band on sat night, you are only allowed to have can's, for those of age( or not). My name is Bradford Byers, I will be driving my 82 Z28, you cant miss it it is black, has a yellow pinstripe all the way around the car, the center of the 82 five star rims are yellow(the star its self, the rest is black), the fog light covers are painted yellow as well, and the back window has a bunch of stickers on the top, it is t-top aswell you cant miss this car, kind of looks like a bee
. So if you are going and you see my car come and find me and say hi. As for the gathering I still would like to know what all of you think of this idea???

Someone should make a date and place. is there anywhere near the QEW we could meet? how 'bout the go kart track near toronto!?! or at "Doc's" bar in toronto on the waterfront? or in Niagra Falls near the casino on the waterfront?
Okay guys, we need to nail down a date for this... it really doesn't matter to me where we have it, but Grand Bend seems the most logical to me... it is kind of in the middle... it is reachable from Windsor, and Toronto... I will be there for both Windsor week-end, and possibly Labour-day week-end. What do you guys say?
would love to take a trip up to grand bend... will be away labor day weekend but the windsor weekend sounds like a plan to me.

The only catch is that the racing that weekend is all for the windsor people, but test and tune is open to all, yet the cost is 25$. I'll be there, already got my tickets

It's coming up soon... who's all going? You can't beat this deal. If you order ahead, it's $10. That gets you unlimited runs at test & tune on friday, two days watching racing, two nights camping and admission to the concert. I will be there. You guys missed out last week-end, it was awesome.
