seats need some work
This happened on my last Formula, an '88. The driver's seat cushion starts to decompose on the left thigh bolster then within a few thou kms the right side starts as well. I noticed this last year when I bought my '91 -- it was starting to fail already. Not much but being the nit-picker I am I noticed it.
Recently I sent my van in to get some seat work done and afterward asked how much to fixup my Firebird seat ? I got a quote for about $100 for which I will get firmer/reinforced support on both upper and lower cushions (the cloth needs no work). I am aiming to have the seat provide stronger lateral support -- more so than the factory setup -- and get the weak worn/spots in the foam corrected at the same time. Now ideally I would get a set of Recaro's or some black leather 4th gen seats. But those are wayyyyy tooooo much dinero. So I have to fixup the original stuff.
Any comments ? Any suggestions ? Has any of you had this kind of work done before ?
thx, RP.

The one and only

You could prolly score some 4th gen TA cloth for around $200-$300.... cheaper if you get lucky. The 4th gen TA seats are way way way better than the 4th gen Camaro seats... 4th gen Camaro seats suck.
If you come across the grey leather and want black, 76BuickGSX found a way to dye them, and they look mint!

Hey thx for the heads up !
I checked out and found some 4th gen Ebony leather for a ridiculous low price. I didn't bid yet, figure the owner probably has a trigger (his own bidder) setup to automatically drive the price up as soon as someone bids ? So I will wait a few days to see how it goes.
Those seats would look awesome in my Formula. You can see the cloth seats are not very inspiring (got washed out by bad light when I took the pic).
I'll be watching Ebay,
RP.

Palric -> I didn't realize you were starting with GTA seats.... the new fourth gen TA cloth will be VERY similar to your old seats... just in way better condition

Now that someone has brought it up -- I think I will stay with my third gen seats. Not that the 4th gen stuff isn't great because it is. I just want to keep the car original in the right places. My seat covers are pretty much brand new looking with little or no wear and tear, just the foam is giving way (in fact the whole interior looks fresh from the showroom -- the pic I posted does not do it justice).
I am going to pull the seats this weekend and get them done. I'll let you know how it goes.
thx,
Richard.
