Setting Idle
Setting Idle
Something that really really bugs me with those guys in the TPI forum... they all try to set the Idle on their TPI engines, then they f**k it up, and come crying... why isn't it running right, wah wah wah!!! Grrrrrr... GM doesn't put a cover over the throttle stop for nothing!!! I was told be a reliable GM Mechanic, is that the only way to adjust your idle properly is to get into programmin your own chips... the throttle stop will give you a tad bit of play, but if you take the screw out too much, it will cause your throttle blades to stick. Also, the computer wants the engine to idle at a certain RPM, so even if you do pull out the screw a bit, the computer is gonna see the RPM's drop and open the IAC more.. does anyone feel the same way about this? Because they are all talking to me like I am a dumb a$$.. and, to me, my theory makes total sense.
The reason why this has been bugging me, is because I want to lower my idle to about 600, to get more of a lumpy V8 sound
But can't find an easy way to do it... one disadvantage of EFI... oh well... I suppose I can live with it...

check out the article about setting TPS and IAC.. i doubt that you can make it idle low enough to give it that "lumpy cam effect" without the ECM raising it back up..
