Got a favor to ask my Ont. brothers

Hey I was wondering if anybody on this board knows somebody in the Ontario Motor Vechile Registration Department. The reason I am asking is I want to find out the history on my IROC... here is the story.

All I know for sure is that the guy I bought it from had it from 1998-99 until July 2001 (which is when I bought it). The guy I bought it from bought it from a Used Car Dealer. I went to Motor Vechile and asked to get a history on my car and all they could give me is that the car was registered by the Used Car Dealer in 1998...other than that the trail goes cold. It is very possible that the car was brought into the province from outside (most likely Ontario, Alberta, etc etc) , then changed over...damn!! The Used Car dealer won't give me any information.

I did a check on Car fax.com and it said that it had a clean bill of health but I want to find out who owned this car.. where it was...

All I know for sure is that my car was made in the Norwood (?) plant in 1987, it was registered by this used car dealer in 1998, bought by the guy I bought it from in 1998..and now I have it......

If someone knew a friend/relative/etc etc in MVR then I could supply the VIN and see if it has a history in Ontario.

Can anybody help me out?

Yeah, thats strange... the used vehicle information package should show everything... and I thought you were required to have it when you tranferred ownerships.

The Used Car package is exactly what I was going to say...But Stan's in Newfieland. I'm thinking the package thing is not in all Provinces.

Actually, if the car was ever registered at one point in Ontario, as he suspects, he may be able to get the package. I'm sure the Ministry would archive that kinda stuff.

I wish there was something like that "buyers package" here in Newfoundland...but there isn't anything like that.....

Paul...I will send you my VIN....thanks in advanced.

The reason I am hunting this down is...

1. I know my car was in some sort of front end collision, the rad support is welded on the drivers side (but not on the passsenger side) and the bumper cover/gfx has been changed at some point. I want to know if this car was totalled and "re-built" or not. I am thinking that the Used Car Dealer here wouldn't have went through the trouble of flatbedding a car from outside the province just to get it here and fix it up and sell it...doesn't make economical sense... but then again who knows. Also the rocker gfx has IROC-Z instead of the factory Z28 which came on the 87 IROC's... other than all that she is rock solid.

I know that the car wasn't totalled or wrote off in Newfoundland because the first time the VIN shows up on the NFLD. "books" is in April 1/1999. NFLD MVR said that if this car was in NFLD before 1999 it would show up on the history. This leads me to believe that it came into the province. I know that it was exported to Canada after it was built due to the fact that it has metric guages, and the RPO says "Z49 (?) Canadian Export" ... so it came into Canada somewhere.. most likely Ontario.

2. I just want to find out where my car was for those 12 missing years

Just want to get the full story on my car.

Thanks Guys! Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this

Hey...

Just got off the phone with GM Vintage Services in Oshawa and they are going to be sending me out a package that will give me the low down on the beginnings of my car's history...all of the options, how many were made, how many came to Canada, what province my car was originally shipped too, what dealship took original posession, and when it was sold from that dealership!

Thanks 1990Zedder for the phone number!!

While this won't give me the history it will give me a place to start. Paul, I would appreciate it if you still ran my VIN though, could help me start my search early for the 12 missing years of history!

Thanks guys!!!

How much does that Vintage services thing cost? I would be very interested in that.

I've got the buyer package for my car and one of these days I would like to try and locate the other owners just to get the entire history on it...what they did? Why they sold it? One of these days I'll get around to it.

Hey Irocker

It costs $45.00 plus GST = $48.00 total.... should be a decent package according to the guy I spoke with...

Here is the ironic part... the guy I spoke with had a 1990 IROC, LB9, 5 speed, 48,000 kms ... he asked me what I paid for mine because he is selling his car and wanted to get some sort of value on his..... so if anyone is looking for a seemingly mint IROC in the Oshawa area I would keep your eye out. I would even suggest calling this place!! hahahhaa...
