Thirdgen Fest '07 information (updated 5/1)

Quite a few people have already starting asking questions about this year so I figured it was time to get some early information posted. If you've attended the event in the past you pretty much know what to expect but for those who haven't here's some early info.

Thirdgen Fest is held every Memorial Day weekend in Crete, IL (about 40 minutes south of Chicago). This year it is Friday and Saturday, May 25th and 26th. This is our sixth year and the event continues to get bigger and better every year. Last year we had about 70 cars and hope to see more this year.
Here what's planned for this year:

Friday, May 25th 7:00 pm --- Friday night party

Friday night is the party night. The Friday night party is basically just your average summer party. We will have a bonfire, keg (21 & over), pop, chips, etc. We will also have bean bag boards and other things to do. The party isn't really about the cars, it just gives people a chance to hang around and talk with other people who love thirdgens.

Saturday, May 26th Noon --- Thirdgen Fest '07

Saturday is the actual event day. Each car attending will receive a goodie bag with a Thirdgen Fest '07 keychain and other items. We provide all you can eat food and drink all day. (No alcohol is provided on Saturday.) Each car attending is assigned a number and you will get a car information sheet to display will your car.

Trophies are awarded in nine categories:

Best Camaro: Stock
Best Camaro: Modified
Best Firebird: Stock
Best Firebird: Modified
Best Paint
Best Interior
Best Engine
Best Restoration
Best of Show

The stock and modified classes have trophies awarded for first through third place. The other five classes are first place only. Winners are chosen through participant voting. Each registration packet includes a ballot for the owner to vote for the car they feel is best in each category.

We also have a raffle at the end of the day. We've always picked only one winner in the past but this year we will be giving away multiple items including a Chevy outdoor canopy/tent, Z28 billboard, car cover, clocks, etc. Each registration packet includes one raffle ticket and additional tickets are available.

Registration packets for Thirdgen Fest '07 go on sale April 1st and are available through the day of the event. The early registration price is $35 per car and is available April 1st - May 15th. The cost increases to $45 per car if you register May16th through the day of the event so it pays to register early. Your registration fee gets in into both days. Remember the fee is PER CAR, it doesn't matter how many people you have in your car. The registration packets also include a map and directions as well as motel/campground information for people coming from out of town.

This is a '82-'92 Camaro/Firebird only event. All other cars will be parked in a separate area. However, you can still attend without bringing a thirdgen but the same registration fees apply.

We believe Thirdgen Fest is the biggest and longest running Thirdgen event in the world. This is a great event and continues to get better every year!!!

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

first no more blower huh? would you like to race.

Second, go to mapquest.com and type in your zip code then crete, IL for the destination. I run up to GLD all the time which is right past the wisconsin border and it takes around 1hour 45minutes from my house which is 30 minutes north of crete, IL where this is held.

Naa no more blower I dident have the extra cash and I prefer a little less noticable power adder the car came with the N20 system that was on the blower engine minus the dual fogger I have a plate going back on it Hoping it will be in the low 11 high 10s once I get it tuned in .. I usually go to the Grove once or twice a year and Byron also, my engine in the 78 Z i had ran low 13s with a basicly stock drivetrain and no spray on 245 radials (spinning for 900ft) the engine dynoed at a little over 500HP without the spray .. Im hoping it will run pretty good in this chassis At least traction shoulden't be a problem it pulled the tires on slicks with the blower engine a few times thanks for the info!

i've brought a camaro with no doors, fenders, interior, bumpers, nose, ground effects, etc. So all beaters are welcome. Last year was the first year my camaro wasn't 7 shades of black, and now it's all one color at least.

Ok, so Where in Crete? I'm guessing it's not a real big town, but is it at some convention center, parking lot, church, or what? I've never been to a ThirdGenFest yet, so I'd like to go. Participation isn't an option unless you open a "Most F-ed up after hit by a Ford" class. escpecially since I now own my own camaro, it's not the bank's anymore.

I must have misunderstood some of the info. I have to pay, just to show up? even if my car isn't in for any trophies/awards or anything? and it's $35 before May 16.

yes you have to pay to show up even if your car isn't in there. You get free food, drinks, etc for the whole day. IF you ride in with another thirdgen vehicle then you don't have to pay as it's PER car not per person.

Dude, please bring the Evo. I've wanted to see one of those in person for a long time. I dont think anyone is going to give you guff about it. For anyone else who hasnt been before, dont worry what you car looks like. There are all kinds of cars there from 100 point show cars to crapped out rust buckets like my IROC (j/k its not THAT bad). The easiest way to find the show is to follow the trail of rust chunks, exhaust smoke and trans fluid leaks. Anytime you see that, you know there is a big group of thirdgens close by Anyway, I plan on haing both of my cars there this year if I can figure out a way to get them both there and can afford to get them both in. See ya'll then

Yeah bring that car out, I was at Dennys the other day and he said it would be cool to see something like that, we had one trippy Trans Am there last year that was all custom.

Trippy is right People might not agree with the way it looked but you have to admire the work and effort.

Wish I had a better pic but thats the best one I have. That guy drove it down all the way from the upper UP of Michigan that day too, like an 8 hour ride or something.

It needed some more body work and such to really clean it up, but it was really cool and you could tell he spent some time on it.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '07 information

Hello everyone. I just picked up an '89 GTA WS6 L98 with some external performance mods. I live in Central IL and had to drive to LaCrosse, WI last weekend to pick it up. In my eyes it was well worth it. The car is far from perfect though. It's got original paint on it which has flaked off a little bit from the roof and of course the spoiler's paint is cracked. The interior is is decenct shape. No major rips or tears, but the dash has a crack right on the top middle.

I have a couple questions on this years Thirdgen Fest. According to google I'm about 120 miles from the event. I would very much like to attend but want to make sure my non perfect GTA won't get laughed out of town. Also, I can only attend one day and want to know which is the better day to attend, Saturday or Sunday? How would registration work for me as well?

Thanks all, hope to see everyone soon!

Re: Thirdgen Fest '07 information

You deffinatly wont get laughed out. There are always a few work in progress cars and even some barely road worthy cars.

As far as the day to come, Saturday, because thats the day of the show, there isn't anything going on Sunday.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '07 information

camp sites are relatively close, perhaps using mapquest would tell you how far away

If your staying at the camp site that we used to, its about a mile away. the biggest problem with it is they have a very long dusty gravel driveway.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '07 information

How much does it cost to come if you are just a spectator (not bringing a car)?
