92 z
92 z
my friend and i are going to go look at a 92 z28 we found on autotrader. its about 100 miles away but it looks like its realy been taken care of good. but anyway it has a tpi 350 with a auto which i am assuming that its a 700r4(did they put anything else in camaros?) i was hoping that you all could kinda give me a little list of codes or what ever it is in the vin # so that i could tell if its got a L98 or what an anything else it might have. im only 15 but for my age i would say i know a good deal about camaros and sbc's in general. the car has the 25 aniversary package. thats all i realy know about the car. but if u could make me a list or somehting of all the vin codes i would be xtremely thankful and so would my friend. the car is only 4000 and his mom fell in love with it when he should it to her on the comp, they dont know much about cars and want me to go with them. anyway thanks for all replies.

Well, if it's really a TPI 350 the 8th digit of the VIN will be "8" If it's an "F" it's a 305. If it is neither then it isn't even a real Z28 b/c all 91-92 Z28s were TPI.
Beyond that, if it's really a 350 car there's not a whole lot else to really check as performance wise they came the same in 92, with the performance axle, rear disks, dual cats, etc all standard on the 350.
The only potential thing to check code wise is for the heritage package. Actually i'm not even sure if this is what you meant. All 92 camaros have a 25th anniversary dash badge. The heritage stripes was a seperate option package. I don't rememeber the RPO code for it off the top of my head, but even if it has stripes and they're not 'factory' if they look good, who cares, you're 15 you don't need to worry about collectability details like that too much.

Ed pretty much summed it all up... but take a look at this: http://iroc.fbody.com/purchase.html
Great article about buying a used IROC-Z, but for the most part, it is all aplicable to a 92 Z28 as well.

25th Hertiage package is RPO Z03.
If the car is really in great shape the $4000 sounds about right from what I've seen.

code for L98
RPO code for L98 is B2L. Eight digit should be "8". Look for the rpo code either in the middle console or compartment in the rear that needs a key to get into on yhe drivers side.
hope this helps

If I remember correctly there are only 3038 92 Z28s with the L98 from the factory so that in itself, being the last year of the 3rdgens and a 25th Anniv Edition to boot make it that much more desireable IMHO. I kinda luckily fell onto my car some 6 years ago and didnt realize what I had until I found this site mainly. I know an exact clone about an hour from me its a 92 Z28 L98, Bose, black int, medium quasar blue ext, 100k miles and very clean and she wont part with it for anything less than $6500. I even went there with $5k cash and she turned me down, so if the car is in good condition $4k sounds like a good asking price and Id jump all over it, you wont be sorry...

# of Z28's with L98
there was 3038 Camaro's w/ L98's in 1992. not all were Z28's some were B4C camaro's. so that make's a Z28 w/L98 that much more rare.

They made more z28's then they did b4c's in 92 witch makes the b4c much more rare.
Im used to seeing a nice 92z28 go for around $6000-$7500 i never really herd of one going for that ceep. Im not saying its a bad car atol, it just seems to be alittle low in the $. What color is the car? 92z28's are my alltime favorite car
