Not all IROCs have em....

My 89 IROC 5.7 w/700R4 and BW 9 bolt 2.77 did NOT come with a factory oil cooler.

But I'm not sure which ones had them....probably the 1LE's for sure???? Someone should be able to give you a definite answer.

If I'm not mistaken isn't the oil cooler a critical part when it is installed, if it wasn't working wouldn't there problems with oil press, etc? Why is you motor oil excessively warm or something?

The oil cooler was only an option on the 89+ cars with the dual cats/performance axle/oil cooler and only came with pre 89 cars when the performance axle ratio was checked

so tell me what year your car is, how many cats and what rear end

Both of my GTA's had/have them. One was a 305/5speed, one is a 350/auto.

you *should not* have the oil cooler, but it has been noticed that every once in a while GM would screw up or some people had the dealer install the oil cooler at the dealer after it was bought WITHOUT the performance axle/dual cat/oil cooler package

it is easy to look for. There will be solid lines (big silver ones) running along the oil pan and going back by the oil filter and up over the rear of the block...if you dont have these lines, you dont have an oil cooler

hmm.....now thats interesting. I didn't know you could buy the GTA with a 305. Maybe the trans ams had the 350 TPI

in my opinion, you *should* have an oil cooler denoted by the performance axle ratio. That was the case in my friend's iroc, but not sure because you have a 305 and am not familiar with what options they came with.

Refer to the location of the oil cooler from what i typed above

GTAs were standard w/ 350/Automatic, but orderable w/ 305 only w/ a stick, so your friends 305/Auto may be a fake GTA or something.
