Hotcam requirements?

OK,OK...I know...do a search. Guys, there is so much info to wade through it all would take days, and I hope this is pretty easy.

I have tons of mechanical know how, but not much practical experience getting into the guts of the motor. I plan to do this all myself, one mod at a time. I'm gonna start with the cam. The heads will be sent out and cleaned/rebuilt...etc. but I don't plan on any major changes. The hotcam seems to be the hot ticket, so I've tenatively chosen it for my motor. Other than the cam itself, what do I need to do to the motor. Note I said NEED to do. I know tons of head work would be great, but that's not the plan right now. Can the 1.5 rockers be used? They can I think. Springs? Just curious. By the way, right now it's a stock l98.

OK- Second...If you were to do some head work...What would it be...WITHOUT changing heads...I'd prefer to keep stock heads...at least for now.

Thanks...You guys rock!

Get the kit from http://www.sdpc2000.com It comes with rockers/springs and pretty much all you need to make this cam work for you. You *might* need to machine the heads for the springs.

...

im pretty sure that all you need to do is get the lt4 valve springs, as far as heads go i would just port the l98's, a lot of people do it and still make lots of power, and spend the money on a set or 1.6 rockers.

SDPC has the kit for $499

It comes with the 1.6 rockers. I would have to do some head work to allow for the lift correct? Are there any drawbacks to using the 1.6 rockers with this cam in my "stock" motor?

It'll be fine as long as you use the correct springs.

You need to have the valve guides cut back to support the .525 lift you get w/ 1.6 rockers.

Thanks again!

...I'm trying to learn as much as I can...

Cutting the valve guides back is everyday stuff for a machine shop right? All They would need to know is what kind of lift I have, correct...size wise I mean. (.525 in this case)

...another question...why are the new springs required? Is it the cam? ...or is it to accomodate the 1.6 rockers?
...if I may throw out a guess...is it because the larger cam means that the valves are opening farther...and faster...thus requiring a stiffer spring to keep up. ? Maybe not, but it sounds good. Like I said earlier, I understand HOW the engine works, but not how all the little changes effect everything.

Thanks again!
