New times with 305 and Vortec heads
I completed the installation of 350 Vortec heads intake and ZZ-4 cam on my 305 and was able to get some track times tonight to verify any power differences. The conditions at the track were not great (15 MPH head wind and limited traction) but the car still ran the best it ever has. I was only able to get 3 runs, but the best run neted me a 13.62 at 100.79 with a 60 ft of 1.98. Their is room for improvement in this time and I expect to run 13.50's when I get the combination dialed in with better weather conditions.
I have not updated my sig but the only changes not shown are the heads, intake, and cam.
Overall I am satisified with the times I ran and am impressed with the power gains of the Vortec heads. With similar conditions I am probably running 4 tenths quicker and 4 MPH faster.

Good times for a 305.
Seem to be a few fast TPI 305's popping up Lately.
I need to get My Headers hhere and TPI on, and Ill give those Vortec's a run for their MPH money w/ Stock 416's
I hope You can pull a little more MPH out of those heads, tho. Ive pulled near 99 On My Completely untouched Stockers... With No headers. I expect to pull 101-102 once i get those on.
Whats you PROM situation ?

How does the car run with that cam? What is it like under 2000rpm and what does it pull to?
I am about to put one in my TBI, I know this is the TPI board, but not to many people have put anything larger than the LT1 cam in thier TBI cars. Just trying to get an idea how the car will run with this cam.

To answer your questions the prom is stock and I am hoping for more MPH but will be satisified with what I have.
The combustion chamber volume of the Vortec heads is listed at 64CC but mine checked at 60CC completely stock. I left them at 60CC and ran a Felpro 1094 steel shim gasket to give me 8.8 : 1 compression. The stock compression ratio checked out at 8.9 : 1.
The car idles smoothly at 750 RPM and will pull to 5500 RPM but I was shifting at 5000 RPM when I ran those times. I run in a bracket race program and did not have any opportunity to experminent with different combinations. I will be dyno testing the car on May 17 and will be able to find peak HP numbers and RPM at that time.

gas milage?
I was wondering what your gas milage is like? It sounds like this is a very streetable combination. You might not have had enought time to get a good idea yet, so your best guess would suffice.

Whats your elevation like in WI. Might be running in some thin air. Near 101 mph isn't too bad anyway for a stock chip and an obviously good hooking launch. It's easy to get great mph when you go up in smoke, hooking tends to slow you down just a bit because you get out just a little less power through the course of the run (13.6 is shorter than 14.5 seconds, harder to get to 101 in less time)
Anyhow man, great job. I'd say you definitely have a lot to get out of that thing still. Being MAF and with a relatively mild cam the stock PROM isn't hurting you as bad as if you were SD, but i would definitely recomend you get into working on it ASAP. There is a 12 second naturally aspirated 305 on this site, on ported stock heads no less. I think with the right program and everything sorted out suspension and clutch wise there is no reason you couldn't be doing the same.
I can't wait to have somebody tell you to get a 350. Nothing wrong with a strong running 305, it's when you go crazy with visions of spending loads of money on a 305 shortblock that they turn into a bad idea....

Thanks for the comments Ed.
The TPI injection is basically stock, the only aftermarket parts are the Vortec intake manifold, SLP cold air kit, TPIS airfoil, and an AFPR set to the stock 42 PSI. I have removed the EGR protrusions in the plenium, matched the plenium to the runners, and removed the screens from the MAS.

I'm pretty sure you are one of the people I talked to that night. I had a black 86 camaro with gold wheels. There was also a 2-tone(white,blue) Formula next to you. Who won the Street Elim. class. I got knocked out first round with a crappy launch and left early to start on my 2 hr. 20 min. ride home to Iron Mountain.

I am running the SDPC Vortec TPI intake and all of the emission equipment if installed and fuctional. I bought the EGR instalation kit that works with the Vortec manifold.

I was thinking the same thing....just think of what you could be running if you had a 350...
Fast 305s are popping up b/c people are sick of everyone yelling to get a 350 and they are just building the 305...i am..sorta...see the sig...that is plenty powerful enough for fun....and still leave money to make the car what it is...a crusin car. YEAH CONVERTIBLES
