Need new heads - Trick Flow's any good?

I found this part number - TFS-30400005 for $969.95 at Summit (pair complete).

It looks like these are a 100% bolt on with only gaskets required to make the swap. Is this all that's needed?

The 64 cc chamber would drop cr down a bit though, any idea how much (stock L98 bottom end)?

The other option that I was considering was the Vortec heads with the Scroggin Dickey Vortec base but that would cost as much or more than these heads AND I do not like press in rocker studs.

I appreciate any input that you have.

Thanks,
Ernie

I personally don't like those heads with tpi, but many will disagree.

You'll need special length pushrods (possibly) with these heads, so get a pushrod length checker, also Trickflow includes a sheet with them that lists a bunch of rocker arms and what length pushrod to use for them, but its best to check it yourself.
I have a pair of these heads on my '85 TPI (new 350 engine) and they seem to work great, I'm still getting the first 500 miles on the engine for break in.

I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon here...but use the "search" function. This has been covered...

They are a good head, but it depends on what your combo is, what kind of cam you want to run, HP goals, etc...

Thanks for the info guys. My immediate need is new heads and I do need heads that will work well later with a mild cam, headers, better intake, converter, etc.

And most importantly...COST.

These look good from price only because they are compatible with the stock TPI and they flow pretty good. The VORTEC swap is about the same money so I think I like these better.

Just wanted some opinions.

Much Appreciated.

If cost is the key factor...then you wouldn't be looking at aluminum, right?

The Trick Flow budget heads sound fine for your combo...

Good catch!

Performance is more important, cost is secondary.

Longterm upgradability is also a factor, I live 12 miles from a grad strip...

I can appreciate what you are saying about upgradibility. That is why I searched long and hard before buying my Pro Action heads. Their flow #'s are equivilant to the AFR 210s.

I like AFR for flow...but the budget TF heads will support 450 HP out of the box...on a 406 with a Comp Cam extreme energy 274 cam with 1 5/8" headers...and 500 ft/lb of torque

So you should be ok...In the end, size does matter...plan on building a larger cube engine in the future to take full advantage of the heads...JMHO
