S.E.S and a custom chip/Atten:Ed
I am beginning to modify my car. I will be burning my own chip and I was wondering would the fact that my S.E.S is on affect anything with the chip burning process? I checked and it is the MAF that is setting the code. I had it checked out professionaly. They hooked up to this big computer and told me that there was nothing was wrong with the sensor and they couldn't tell me what set the code. Since it was a GM dealer they got a new MAF and put it on my car. Again nothing wrong but after about 15 seconds the S.E.S light came on. Again it was the MAF, but everything was checking out. They did not charge me for the MAF and told me nothing was being affected other than the light was coming on. Now they would have no reason to lie to me about it because they would make a killing off selling me that MAF. So back to my original quest. Would this have any negative effect when I burn my own chip?
Well, My name isnt Ed.
But...
To answer you original question, No.
It won't make a **** of differance if your getting SES lights now or not when you go to burn your new PROM.
As for why your gettnig code 33/34 With an apparantly good MAF, Check the MAF burnoff relay, as well as the Power relay.
Someoen can chime in with that goood ole trick to see if those are working, or not.
Id recommend sorting out whats causing the SES before trying all sorts of crazy chip combo's.

I concur, don't get into any modding of your car when there is a known problem, and a SES light indicates you have problems. The GM dealer didn't make a killing on you with the MAF because it didn't fix the problem (you said yourself the light came back on) and at least they were honest about it. But they aren't honest when they say that it's OK, something is wrong. Pull the codes from the computer yourself (all you need is a paperclip and the ability to see light, do a search on 'paperclip codes' if you don't know how)
Once you know what codes you have do a search to find out what to check and if things are unclear, re-post and we can figure things out.
The worst move you can do though is start modding a car with problems, that only leads to headaches and lots of wasted money.
