Tips for Sanding to polish the plenum top grids?

I am having a seriously difficult and mind numbing time trying to sand the grain off the inside 7 grooves or grids on the top of the plenum.

How did you all do it?

Maybe a dremel will work? I'm sure they have some kind of sanding disk that could fit down between the grooves.

try wraping some sandpaper around a paint stick, then run it back and forth. This should work, but you may be better off painting them.
