are the A/C lines in the way?

I just bought a book that tells you all about your car. It says that when you pull off your intake base and exhaust manifolds that the A/C lines MIGHT be in the way and you need to take the car somewhere that can release the presure in the system. Has anyone done an intake base swap and put headers on a 1989 L98 that could tell me what you did? Thanks

Take a look at your engine. Look on the passenger's side for a silverish looking can-like object with 2 or 3 lines coming off it near the back of the engine. That's part of your A/C, and anything connected to it is pressurized. (Very general description.)

When I put my headers in, the A/C was removed. It's possible to remove the exhaust manifolds with the A/C installed, without purging it... it'll just take more time. You should be able to remove the intake without touching the A/C.

My experience is on a 1990 L98.

Thanks for your help. Did you install your headers without lifting the engine? I have heard that it's a b**** to put headers on these cars and that you have to raise the engine.

Nope, didn't have to lift the engine. All I had to do was unbolt the coolant line to the heater to move it out of the way, bend some brake lines, and grind a little off the steering shaft.

There's some pictures and a little description of my header install in the middle of this post somewhere.
