New Engine Problems

I finished rebuilding my 305 TPI. Now it is real hard to start. It takes about 10-15 seconds of turning before it catches and starts. It really doesn't matter what time of day it is or how much it ran that day. Every once in a while it will fire right up. It was a stock rebuild, except underdrive pullies. It also idles at about 1300RPM. I'm not sure if that is normal or not either. I can't seem to get it down anymore. Thanks

Check for a large vacuum leak. Around the runner gaskets and
all the hoses.

Also, it is a new engine. If it was put together correctly it should be "tight" after it breaks in it'll loosen up a bit.

Actually after I got it together I put about 700 miles on it and it set for 6 months. Now since I've been back it's been my daily driver for over a year. It runs real strong, it is just anoying to start, and it seems to idle high. I'm not sure where it should idle at though. Other than that I've been pretty impressed with the 305

It should idle about 6 or 700 rpm.
