327 Tpi Project...

i want to take my old 1963 Chevy 327 V8 and put my other Tuned port onto it...
i have the heads of the other engine ( its a 305 from a GTA 1988 )

but witch heads can be more powerful? the Stock 327 heads or the Centerbolt 305 heads?

witch cam use? Stock 327 or TPI 305?

what about computer?

is that possible? anyone did it ?

Not to second guess your judgement or anything....

But have you thought about the effects of a 327's bore vs stroke and the lack of rpm potential of a TPI engine?

327 tpi project...

the Tpi intake isnt a good intake for revving engine?

the 327 is 4.000x3.25? its only .230 long...
350 4.000x3.48

my friend have an old Built 283 Carbed.. and he goes to 10 000 rpm...

i dont want my 327 to go to 10krpm... just only idle to 5 - 6000 rpm...

The tpi intake is the WORST intake for revving....

It should have been put in trucks because it makes torque and doesn't rev... besides that the only thing it has going for it is its pretty.

Its not suited for a 327 at all.

The 305 has an abnormal stroke bias which makes it work out for tpi, but a 327/302 is to much bore for the stroke

Yeah, I agree with tpi_roc. The TPI is great for long-stroke motors like the 305 and 383, but the air stalls out in the runners at about 5500 RPM. If you want a 327 fuelie, go with an LT1, RamJet, or Stealth Ram.

On the Heads, I'd probably stick with the 327 heads, unless they're really in bad shape. The 305 heads have small 58cc combustion chambers, but they also have little valves, too. Check out the valves in your 327 heads, they're problably bigger.

Congratulations tpi_roc, you're now plural.

I've heard of success with 327 miniram motors.

Wow, look at that response time. You guys must not get out much.

Sorry, tpi_roc, you are singular again.

Nit-picky bastards.

try doing a search. The TPI 327 issue has been debated many times. You'll find much discussion about the horrible match of a large bore/ short stroke high rpm motor and a big torque, low rpm induction system.

327 tpi project...

so.. a tpi setup isnt good on engines with less than 3.48 stroke...
its good for 3.48 / 3.75 ( 400 / 383 )

any 283 / 327 must have better results using LT1 / Carbed systems?

thanks for answering guys!

LT1 would work beautifull for 327 if you went ***** to the walls, however if its just a hydrualic lifter strong street engine you may find the ports on the LT1 to be to big and ruin any streetable torque.

A miniram might be a wise choice, im not sure who has the smaller port sizes

The stroke isn't directly the issue. The issue is that TPI is a low rpm, high torque system, which is a terrible match for high winding 327. That's not to say that you couldn't make a torque monster out of a 327 with a 5,000 rpm redline.... it's just that it's pointless to do that with a 327 instead of with a 350 or 383. The big bore/short stroke design is begging to be turned to 7,000 and beyond... which a stock TPI isn't ever going to be able to provide air for.
