computer code reader?
where can i buy that program that will allow a laptop to read my car's computer?? if i want to keep my TPI, i think i'll need this....make troubleshooting a little easier

read the teck page on how to do your own programing. there are link to free programs that you can use.

You can read codes without buying or hooking up a thing. Just a bent piece of wire (paperclip). Check out the tech articles on this very site to find out how.
If you want to see the diagnostic data stream that the computer spits out (realtime data of what the computer is seeing and doing) then you'll need something more.
A couple good software solutions is Craig Moates' ECM Scan software, and JoBy's WinALDL scan software.
There's also some good handheld scanners like OTC and AutoXRay that are fairly affordable.
There's some better handhelds that are more meant for professional use (like Snap-On).
There's also several software solutions for handheld PDAs like Palm, such as Ease.
It all depends on what you want/need and how much you can/will spend. But just for pulling codes, a paper clip and this website will work just fine.
