MAF & MAP and K&N filter question

My g/f has this filter on her 383 TPI Trans AM, its an 91 so its got the MAP speed density basically and I have MAF, so my question is, the jegs catalog says won't work with MASS-Air flow?

So I can't use this filter heh? Any way around it?

Or is there another setup I should look into?

OR was this a stupid question?

It is a physical fit situation. Your g/f has MAP with nothing but air tubing upstream from the throttle body. So, in her application, the upstream tubing is by-passed, and the subject K&N mounts right on the TB.
Your MAF setup has the actual MAF sensing component (it measures the air flow before it gets to the TB) upstream from the TB, and cannot be by-passed. Also, your tubing is round, and the subject K&N is made to mount on the oval TB. So if you did find room for the K&N upstream from the MAF sensor, you would need to make an oval adapter to use it. I think K&N makes a filter for your MAF applicaton, but it is not the same as your g/f's.

Yea it will not work with Mass Air. You will need to switch to speed density in order to use that setup. The best way for you is to gut your air box and make a "ram air" system. There is a tech article on how to make in on the main page. I have gutted my air box but am to lazy to make a "ram air" setup. I am going to get to it eventually.

On another note....

The cone filter is only going to feed your engine hot air.

Is your GF by any chance using a cowl hood? I ask because when I tried that K&N on my TB, it rubbed the underside of the hood (stock powerbulge hood). Just curious.
