Crane 2030 or 2040
Yes I did search!
looking in the tech section the 2030 is barely bigger in duration and has more lift than the 85 GOOD cam. Only the 2030 is on 110 LSA. The 2040 is on 114 LSA much like the 85 cam with just a little more duration/lift.
Specs......
86 Peanut .350/.385 179/194 109 LSA
85 lLB9Cam .403/.415 202/206 114.5 LSA
Crane 2030 .423/.446 204/214 110 LSA
Crane 2040 .440/.454 210/216 114 LSA
Seems to me the 2030 is just barely better than the stock 85 cam, and the 2040 would be a upgrade. Either would be better than the peanut POS I have now!
BTW the 2030 is on back order. I ordered thru local speed shop. While checking specs on Summit, they list a 8-1-02 date, Crane says mid August. The 2040 is in stock and ready to ship. I do plan on changing the valvesprings/retainers/pushrods at the same time also.
My car......1986 TA 305 AT, 3.27 BW rear, 1991 GM erplacement tranny with 2200 stall corvette convertor. I normally cruise at 2000-2200 rpm on the highway. I also plan on port the base and plenum while topend is torn down. I do plan on cutting the walls out in the base per the tech article. I also have the Crane FPR to add also.
My guess is about a 45-50 hp increase on the top end. Current cam falls flat at 3700-3800 rpm.
THANKS for info/suggestions.

I would go with the 2040 because it has a more duration and more lift. I also thought the pre86 cars were flat tappet cams. I'm not sure if the 2040 is a flat tappet cam or not.

2030 and 2040 grind can both be had as old style hyd. flat tappet grinds.
BTW I just changed the order to Crane # 114132 cam. Should be 10 hp gain over the 85 cam, or 35-40hp from cam ALONE!
I hope for mid 14's after the cam swap and porting the plenum and lower base.
