need help on verifying engine size
need help on verifying engine size
i don't know where to post this question so i'm going to post it here. I'm looking at a 86 iroc-z, the vin number says that it's a 305, but he claims that the owner before him dropped in a 350, i know that there were only 50 5.7 camaros produced in 1986, so is there any way to prove that it's a 350? And it's definetly TPI. thanks a lot.

Ermm.. there prolly won't be one there. I'm assuming this is Carburated ?
You can:
1) Pop a valve cover and check the casting # on the head.
2) Remove the wiper motor, and stick your head in there and look
at the casting number on the top of the motor behind the head.
The LG4 (305's) from that period usually said:
"GM 5.0 LG"
Followed by a casting #..
Basicly, the wiper motor is the only real obstacle form reading the casting #.. Depending on year, they may or may not be one on the side.
