Can i use a factory base plate, or do i need a perf. one?

hello, i am converting my 305 TPI to a ZZ4 TPI, i already know everythhing i need to do, but i have one question.....see my car is a 87, so my baseplate won't fit on the ZZ4 heads (is there someway it might?)...so iwas trying to decide on if i need to buy a highperformance baseplate,or if a factory 1986 baseplate would be suffient to provide the flow that i need.........

sorry for this long post, but i just thought of another question....would it be the best thing to get as much CFM out of the runners and TB as possible...or would like a 52mm TB due with like semi siamised runners...

Thanks for the help!

John

I think the 87 intake will bolt directly to the older style ZZ4 heads. However if not, it's an easy fix. Take the intake to a machine shop and have them reangle the middle two holes on either side of the intake. A NAPA machine shop did mine for $25 cash. They just bolted the intake to an old SBC head they had laying around and did the job.
While you're at it, clean up that intake, knock down all the flashing cast inside and gasket match the ports.
If you have the cash, the Edelbrock would be a better intake for your ZZ4. I have the Edelbrock and compared it side-by-side with my self-ported stock intake. Big difference in the internal dimensions. Plus the air takes a straighter path on the Edel unit.
Good luck

just put a zz4 in my friends gta. 87. you will need to enlongate the center bolt holes to fit the factory one. or you can get one from an '85-'86. the edelbrock would be a better choice theough. also, if you have the seprentine setup, you will need to drill a hole into the passenger head to accomodate the bracket.
