basic stat question

I have a 87 Formula with a 305 TPI. I just got it, and want to flush the coolant system. I read you should take out the thermostat when you do this. I had a lot of trouble even finding it, but finally saw the housing underneath the front part of the engine. What is the easiest way to remove the housing. Seems like you have to remove somethings to get at it. Anyone with directions or a link to directions would be appreciated. Just trying to learn how to do things on my own. Thank you.

I use an offset box wrench. You will need to disconnect your air intake right in front of the throttle body to get better access to the front bolt.
