best tpi buy,least hassle

im running carb on a 350 right now. im looking at going tpi. i was wondering if there was any difference in tpi from year to year. i was thinking of going to a junk yard and pulling on off of a 305 or 350. would a 4th gen tpi work on my car, or should i look for a certain year or model tpi.

second how hard is it to reprogram the stock computers if i get a tpi from a 305 to be able to use it on my 350. and what it the max hp that those tpi can handle.

thanks for any information

You'll want a Speed Density Tpi since they are the easiest to work with and no worries about the MAF. Speed Density systems are alot more friendly when it comes to prom burning. The fuel injection on the 4th gens is the LT1 and it is different being a sequential port instead of being multi-port.

even with 4th gen being sequential port instead of being multi-port if i pull everything including the computer would it matter. cant you prom burn sequential-port just as easy as multi-port.

As far as the differences between the 350 and 305 are just a few of them. The ones that I know of off the top of my head are the knock sensor and the injectors. The stock injector size of a 350 is 22# and the 305 has 19#. I am planning on doing an LT1 intake swap onto the 350 I am building but I have a lot more research to do as far as the Prom goes and to see if I am going to need to do anything with the wireharness. We shall find out though.

Fourth gens use a different style engine, you can't just swap the fuel injection system, you would need the whole engine. Or you could swap just the intake an use a TPI computer for it www.lt1intake.com It doesn't really matter what year TPI you get from a thirdgen, they are basiclly the same, the computer is what decides if its a MAF or SD system, or a 305 vs 350. There is a great article in the tech section of this site about prom burning. I also recomend getting a book called TPI swappers guide. It is a great place to start to learn the basics of TPI and see what you are getting into.

i just wanted to make sure that every thing will work since the engine im running is a 72 350. another question is how many different sensors do you need when removing a tpi setup, i want to make sure that i get everything, i dont want to miss something and not be able to get it to work becuase i missed a hanging wire.

no.. not all TPI are the same... after 88 or 89... they didnt have the "9th injector" for cold starts... u can tell if it has a thin runner between to the bigger runners...
